Carmen Urbanec was born December 24, 1930, in Dickinson, the daughter of Anton and Clara (Ridl) Urbanec. She grew up, attended grade school at the Leigh High country school and the Shiple schools, graduating from Dickinson High School in 1948. She began working at Cloverdale Creamery and it was here where she met John Faller. The two were married on September 17, 1951. To this union, two daughters, Cheryl and Vernette were born. Carmen also worked for Schnell/Stockman Livestock until 1979 and then for the Registrar of Deeds until 1999 when she retired. Carmen loved being outdoors, taking care of her yard and flowers. She also enjoyed puzzles, crosswords, games, carnival rides, reading, and watching mystery shows. She enjoyed attending church, concerts and visiting John at the ND Veteran Cemetery in Mandan. Ice cream Drumsticks, Sandies Shortbread cookies and Hershey’s with almonds were a couple of her favorite treats. She always looked forward to her daily ride with Vernette and Carmen’s buddy, Rigley, to go for coffee. Carmen had a huge heart and truly loved her family and spending time with them. Her pride and joy was her great-grandson Johnathan. Carmen was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Altar Society.

Carmen is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Zidel of Woodridge, IL and Vernette Hilton of Dickinson; five grandchildren, Sarah and Daniel Zidel, Christopher, Jason (Monica) Hilton; Kayla (Brett Messall) Hilton; great-grandson Johnathan; one sister, Wiletta Stoltz of Dickinson.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John; sister, Elsie Schmaltz; and her parents.
