Carol passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Dahl Memorial Hospital, Ekalaka, MT. after an intense battle with cancer.

Carol Anne Owens was born May 27, 1956 in Belle Fourche, SD, the daughter of Wallace and Marie (Rail) Owens. She grew up in and attended grade school in Camp Crook, SD. After graduating from Buffalo High School in 1974, Carol went on to attend Montana State University in Bozeman, MT. In 1985, Carol graduated with high honors with a degree in Elementary Education. On June 9, 1973, Carol and Gene Odell were united in marriage in Camp Crook, SD. The couple made their home in Camp Crook and welcomed sons, Chancey and Trevor to their family. The family lived in Spearfish, SD, Lame Deer, Bozeman and Ashland, MT. They returned to Camp Crook in 1987.

Carol enjoyed being active outdoors. She could often be found working in her yard, running, hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, bicycling and riding her ATV. She was an avid reader, but only when it was too dark or the weather was too bad for her to be outside. She loved to travel and was eager to plan her next adventure. Carol was a member of the Little Missouri Lutheran Church, Camp Crook Area Community Center Board and the Harding County Education Association.

Carol loved teaching and always knew that is what she wanted to be. At a young age she often made her sisters and friends play school, but she was always the teacher. She had a special relationship with her sisters and every other summer the three of them planned and went on Sister Trips; even to far off places such as Canada, Indonesia and Florida.

Carol is survived by her husband, Gene Odell of Camp Crook; son, Chancey (Meghan Reedy) Odell of Camp Crook; father, Wallace Owens of White Sulphur Springs, MT; and sisters, Nora (Barry) Bergan of White Sulphur Springs, MT and Donna (Steve) Mattson of Fishtail, MT.

She was preceded in death by her son, Trevor Odell in 1996; mother, Marie Owens; step-mother, Colleen Owens; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Melvin and Lollie Odell; nephew, Danny; paternal and maternal grandparents; and numerous aunts and uncles.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Susan G. Komen Great Plains, PO Box 461236, Papillion, NE, 68046 and the Camp Crook Area Community Center Board, 203 Main Street, Camp Crook, SD, 57724.
