Carol battled multiple myeloma cancer for over 10 years and died peacefully and with dignity in Glendive, Montana on April 11, 2024 spending her last days with her family. Cremation, per Carol’s wishes, has taken place.
Carol Jane McDonald entered the world at the family home with the assistance of her Grandma Nellie McDonald on September 25, 1935 in Iona, Minnesota. She was the fifth of six children born to parents Francis and Mary McDonald. Carol attended grades 1-9 at St. Columba Catholic School in Iona, Minnesota and graduated from high school at Slayton, Minnesota in 1953. Carol and Donald Wade were married at St Ann’s Catholic Church in Slayton, Minnesota on June 11, 1955. They were blessed with five children: Cindy, Bill, Gary, Andy and Traci. The family made their home in Chokio, Minnesota before moving to Baker, Montana in December of 1966, where they spent many enjoyable years watching their five kids involved in school activities, sports and many family outings of hunting, fishing and fun get-togethers. Carol was extremely proud to complete the training to administer home hemodialysis for Don. Due to Don’s failing health and the continued need for dialysis, they moved to Dickinson, North Dakota in 2000. Following Don’s death in 2004, Carol lived in Miles City, Montana until 2021 when she moved to The Heritage Assisted Living Facility in Glendive, Montana. Mom was very happy, thankful and content living at The Heritage.
Carol’s office work ethic was well respected throughout the years of bookkeeping at the Murray County Bank in Slayton, Minnesota, Farmer’s Elevator Chokio, Minnesota, Equity Co-op in Baker, Montana, Fallon County Deputy Treasurer, School District #12 as Deputy School Clerk, Fallon County Deputy Clerk of Court and retiring in 1998 having served as Fallon County Clerk of the District Court. She always had a big smile for whomever she met, along with an offer of help when needed. Carol loved communicating with her family and friends, having coffee, visiting and enjoying time together. She could often be seen with a favorite cup full of coffee in her hand. Holiday dinners were always a special treat with everyone looking forward to her wonderful pies and goodies, which included lefse at Christmas time. Her “grands and greats” could always count on their favorite treat of banana bread when they visited. They were SO loved!! She enjoyed reading her daily papers and keeping up on current events. Carol loved to dance in earlier years and enjoyed all types of music. She always looked forward to volunteering her help at the pie making sessions with the ladies of Sacred Heart Parish in Miles City. She had a unique sense of humor and was a genuine and loyal friend. Family birthdays and anniversaries were always remembered with her general family email as well as a special card in the mail. “Granny Carol” had a deep, profound love for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She cherished the times when her family gathered for special events. Carol was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glendive, Montana as well as retaining her membership of many years with the Catholic Daughters of America at St. John’s parish in Baker.
Carol is survived by her five children: Cindy (Randy) Pisk, Fort Peck, MT; Bill (Teresa) Wade, Glendive, MT; Gary Wade (Verna Thompson), Haugen, WI; Andy (Brenda) Wade, Vernon Hills, IL; Traci (Doug) Schell, Goodyear, AZ.
