Mass of Christian Burial for Carole M. O?Donnell, 72, of Baker, MT will be at 10:00 a. m. Thursday, February 18, 2010, at St. John?s Catholic Church in Baker with the Rev. Father Thomas Tobin as celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow in Old St. John?s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. on Wednesday, February 17th at Stevenson Funeral Home with a Rosary and Vigil Service at 7:00 p. m. in the Chapel. Carole went to join her parents, brother, and granddaughter after enduring a battle with cancer that overcame her Saturday, February 13, 2010. Throughout this trying time Carole was constantly thinking of others. She never missed sending out birthday cards, anniversary cards, and especially Christmas cards to her many friends and family. Carole Marie O?Donnell was born in Ray, ND on October 21. 1937, a daughter of Elmer and Irene (Hartsoch) Olson. She attended Dickinson State College and later attended and graduated from Western Montana University in Dillon, MT with a teacher?s certificate. Carole taught in a one room school house south of Marmath, ND. She met the love of her life and lifelong best friend Herbert O?Donnell on Valentine?s Day and a year later they were married on June 6, 1957. Carole and Herb made their lifetime home north of Baker, MT. and to this happy home six children were born, Scott, Todd, Irene, Tracy, Vance and Kara. Carole worked as a postal clerk for the United States Postal Service in Baker, MT for 25 years. Carole?s real love in life was her family and friends. She had a love of music and would play the piano and the accordion and sing on many occasions. Carole and Herb were at many square dancing events and other dances in the Baker area. Carole loved to read and would gladly read to her children and grandchildren. Carole was always interested in learning new technology and sharing her new skills with her grandkids. She learned about photography while helping out with 4-H projects and to better preserve family memories. Carole was very skilled in sewing and quilting and made many blanket pillows and quilts for her family and friends. Her most recent sewing activities were for her angel Katlynn. Carole would build blankets that would be put in a care package for other patients with family medical emergencies. Carole was an active supporter of her families activities and attended many athletic events, 4-H project fairs, educational programs, and family reunions. Carole enjoyed all the holidays that occurred each year, but her favorite holiday was Christmas. She always visited the Christmas store when she was in Billings. Carole collected many Christmas theme sets and always tried to give her family the specific Hallmark ornament they desired. Carole was often tired by the demands of the chemo therapy she was undergoing, but she never tired of doing something for her family. Carole is survived by her husband, Herb of Baker; her children, Scott (Karen) O?Donnell, Baker, Todd (Sandy) O?Donnell, Sidney, Irene (Monty) Erickson, Forsyth, Tracy (Roy) Boespflug, Billings, Vance (Kim) O?Donnell, Baker and Kara (Matt) Erickson, Miles City; 14 grandchildren,; 2 step-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Jerry (Jo) Olson, Lewiston, ID and her sister, Virginia (Bob) Perzinski, Kalispell. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Elmer and Irene, her granddaughter, Katlynn Erickson and a brother, Elmer Olson.
