Parastas for Catherine Gawrylow, 90, of Dickinson, ND, formerly of Belfield, will be 10 a. m. , Monday, February 16, 2009 at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Belfield, ND. Burial will be in the St. John Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 p. m. – 9 p. m. , Sunday, February 15, 2009 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson, ND with a Rosary service at 7 p. m. Catherine passed away Thursday, February 12, 2009 at St. Benedict’s Health Care Center Dickinson, ND. Catherine Dutchuk was born December 23, 1918 to Steve and Wasylena ?Bella? (Dowhaniuk) Dutchuk. She grew up on the family farm near Gorham and attended nearby country school through the eighth grade. While in school she worked on the farm herding the pigs and cattle. After school she worked as a housekeeper for families in the surrounding area. She met John Gawrylow and the two were married June 27, 1942 at St. Demetrius Catholic Church at Ukraina. After marriage they lived in Medora while John worked on the Medora Bridge. They moved to the Lehigh coal mine where John worked in the mines and Catherine cooked for the miners. John and Catherine later purchased a farm in Billings County where they worked together until John?s death. They made their home in Belfield from the 1960?s until John?s death in 1992, and Catherine continued to live in the same house until 2006. She was a lifetime member of St. John?s Ukrainian Catholic Church. She loved gardening, her geraniums and roses. She also enjoyed canning of which she was famous for her dill pickles, crocheting, embroidering, playing cards and entertaining family and friends. Catherine is survived by her son Edward, Belfield, her daughter Edna (Ken) Walton, Spearfish, SD; her grandchildren: Katherine (Joe) Divis, Rapid City, SD, Kimberly Walton, Spearfish, SD, Karen (Dale) Frasier, Spearfish, SD, John Walton, Redmond, WA, James Walton and fianc? Erica, Spearfish, SD, Lisa (Jim) Dowhaniuk, Portland, OR, Suzzane (Shane) Frank, Mandan, Mary (Tim) Yourk, San Antonio, TX and Michele (Jim) Kelly, Belgrade, MT; great-grandchildren: Alex and Kirk Dowhaniuk, Shantell, Sara and Sam Frank, Victoria and Christina Walton and Alisha, Tyler, Nathan, Andrew and Joshua Divis. She was preceded in death by her husband John; parents; brothers: Nicholas, Peter, Paul, Ben, Carl and John; and sisters: Mary, Polly, Carol, Rose and Anna.
