Funeral Mass for Catherine ?Katie? Mayer, 98, of Dickinson, ND formerly of Gladstone, ND is 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 6, 2009 at St. Thomas Catholic Church with burial to follow at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 PM to 9 PM with a Rosary and Vigil service at 7 PM on Friday, June 5, 2009 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson. Catherine passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at St. Joseph?s Hospital in Dickinson. Catherine (Katie) Dassinger was born June 13, 1910 on the family farm in rural Gladstone, NDto Peter and Elizabeth (Zwich) Dassinger. She grew up on the farm and attended Rural Garden School District. After school she continued to live and work on the farm with her brother. She married Philip Mayer on June 25, 1935 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Gladstone. They farmed south of Gladstone until retirement when they moved into Gladstone in 1969. She continued to make her home in Gladstone until 2000 when she moved to Villard Terrace in Dickinson, where she has made her home since. Katie loved gardening. She had a green thumb for her green pepper plants. She also enjoyed playing cards. If you ask her grandchildren what they remember most about grandma, they will tell you it was her homemade chicken noodle soup and cheese strudel. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life; she loved spending time with all of them and enjoyed cooking for them. She was a member of the Homemaker?s Club, the K. C. Ettes, Gladstone Senior Citizen?s Center and the St. Thomas Altar Society. Katie is survived by her daughter, Delores Kudrna, Billings, MT; son, Clifford (Elaine) Mayer; daughter-in-law, Joan (Joe) Berger; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Philip; two sons: Melvin and James; three brothers; five sisters; a grandson, David Mayer; granddaughter, Janelle Mayer and a son-in-law, Edwin Kudrna. A special thank you to Joan Berger, Mrs. Betty Ridl and Irene Rhode for all the wonderful care given to Katie over the years.
