Catherine Metz

Catherine Metz, 86, Dickinson, died Thursday, October 19, 2006 at St. Joseph?s Hospital and Health Center, Dickinson. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a. m. , Monday, October 23, 2006 at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Dennis Schafer celebrating. Interment will be in St. Joseph?s Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will be Noon to 9 p. m. , Sunday, October 22, 2006 at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson, with a rosary and prayer service at 7 p. m. led by Deacon Al Schwindt. Catherine Fugere was born October 26, 1919 in Steele, ND to Gustave and Georgiana (Sauvageau) Fugere. In 1928, the family moved to the farm south of Belfield. She attended country school until the fourth grade. At a very young age, she began working at the NYA in Belfield, where they made clothes. With that income, she was able to dress herself and her sister, Doris. She moved to Dickinson and began work at Dickinson Laundry. Catherine was united in marriage to Louis J. Metz on June 28, 1943. They made their home in Dickinson and raised two sons, Arnold and Morris. Her favorite pastimes were her vegetable garden and flower garden. She had a green thumb. She also loved to iron and was good at it. She loved to dance and play cards. Her favorite was pinochle. She began work at St. Benedict?s Health Center, then worked at the DSU cafeteria, then at St. Joseph?s Hospital in the laundry room. She retired in 1982. She then did some traveling. Catherine was a loving, caring sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of Christian Mothers and St. Ann?s Auxiliary. She is survived by: one son, Arnold (Naureen) Metz, Dickinson; one granddaughter, Jodi (Robert) Pirkl, Box Elder, SD; two great-grandchildren, Brittni and Blake Pirkl; two sisters, Ida Mae (Alvin) Dietz, Dickinson, and Doris (Lawrence) Ouellette, Dickinson. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Louis; one son, Morris; her parents, Gustave and Georgiana; three brothers, Dorman, Maynard, and Anthony, and one sister, Evelyn Ouellette. She will be greatly missed by all of the family and her many friends.
