Cecelia Jane McCabe was born June 27, 1913, in Dickinson, to John Edward McCabe and Honoria (Meade) McCabe. She attended primary school in Belfield and went on to graduate from the Visitation Convent School in St. Paul, Minnesota. She attended Rosary College, River Forest, Chicago, Illinois and graduated in 1935 with a degree in English Literature. After college, she was employed by the Chicago Daily Sun, and later taught school in Puerto Rico in 1936. She was engaged to Dr. Harlan John Weir of Dickinson and they were married at Saint Bernard?s Catholic Church in Belfield on August 4, 1937. They lived in Dickinson with their five children. Harlan J. Weir preceded her in death on January 13, 1972. Of her seven siblings; Cecelia is survived by her sister, Sister Mary Regina, VHM, former Mother General of the Order of the Sisters of the Visitation, Mendota Heights, Minnesota. She is also survived by her children, Paul John (Susan) Weir, Harlan Patrick (Diane) Weir, Mary Honora (Dan Heibel), Peter Francis Weir, and Michael Kevin (Lois) Weir, as well as her fourteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. She will be buried alongside her beloved brother, Lieutenant Peter McCabe, who died as a result of wounds suffered at Normandy during the Second World War, and her husband, Harlan J. Weir. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to: The Blessed Gianna?s Maternity Home, 15605 County Rd. 15, Minto, ND 58261 or Catholic Relief Services, 209 West Fayette Street, Baltimore, MD 21201-3443.
