Cecilia passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at Sanford Medical Center in Bismarck.

Cecilia Joy Homiston was born April 25, 2008, in Long Branch, New Jersey to Jason and Kristy (Giffin) Homiston. She moved with her family to Dickinson at the age of four. Cecilia attended school at Lincoln Elementary, Jefferson Elementary, Dickinson Middle School, and most recently was a junior at Dickinson High School.

Cecilia was truly blessed with the gift of athleticism from a very early age. Her early years were competing and honing skills with her cousins in the back yard and had an almost freakish hand-eye coordination as early as 3-4 years old. She never backed down from competing with those boys and much to the envy of her cousins, usually came out on top. Cecilia’s early love for sports moved into elementary and middle school, competing in basketball, softball, volleyball, and track with the many friends she still holds close today. As Cecilia entered high school, the fire in her spirit started burning even brighter as a fierce competitor and her willingness to do what it takes to win. Train even harder, practice even more, watch film, be coachable. Her work ethic translated to her performance as an excellent high school volleyball player and track athlete. Cecilia became the starting varsity setter as a freshman, earned All-Region as a sophomore and All-Region and All-State as a junior and finished her high school career with 2,795 assists. Cecilia was also a passionate track athlete. As a track athlete for DHS she holds 5th all-time in the 200m, 3rd all-time in the 400m and is a member of two relay teams setting school records as state runners-ups in the 4x100 relay and state champions in the 4x200 relay. Cecilia had so many goals yet to be fulfilled.

Much of the public knows Cecilia as the athlete. However, so many of us are so blessed to know Cecilia’s amazing character. Cecilia’s heart overwhelmed us and was called a friend by anyone she came across, no matter how brief the interaction. Cecilia just had a kindness about her. She was gentle and compassionate, and she left a smile on the face of everyone she knew. She was the spirit of the family, she was the clown of the family, she was a best friend to her sister. She made us laugh. She was so easy to root for in games and in life. Although her time with us was far too brief, Cecilia’s magic combination of the heartwarming yet competitive spirit made an impact on her community and school that will never be forgotten.

Cecilia is survived by her parents, Jason and Kristy; sister, Lola; grandparents, Mick and Gayle Homiston of Dickinson, and Phil and Eunice Giffin of Spearfish, SD; her aunts and uncles, and her cousins; Jack, Ian, Blake, Sloan, Owen, Aiden, Emilee, Austin, and Kobi.

In lieu of flowers, Cecilia's family suggests that donations be made to the “Cecilia Homiston Memorial Fund.” These Donations will be used to carry on Cecilia’s unforgettable legacy in our community.

These donations may be dropped or mailed to Stevenson Funeral Home: 2067 1st St West Dickinson, ND 58601.
