Funeral services for Charles “Charlie” Bastian, 82, of Dickinson will be11:00 a. m. , Monday, April 25, 2016 at Stevenson Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Phalen officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home. Charlie passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at CHI St. Alexius Health Bismarck. Charles “Charlie” Harlund Bastian was born in Trail City, SD on April 6, 1934 to Elwyn and Evelyn (Bender) Bastian. Charlie grew up and attended school in Trail City and Mobridge South Dakota. He enlisted in the United States Airforce on April 7, 1951 and was honorably discharged on October 13, 1955. After the military Charlie worked in Logan, UT as a police officer for nine years, until he moved back to Montana where he worked as a produce manager at Safeway. It was there that he met his wife Diana Stanisich. The couple married September 27, 1964 in Butte, MT. To this union their daughter Mary was born. Charlie worked several jobs to support his family. He worked at the Milwaukee Railroad in Miles City, MT as a yard master for 11 years. Charlie and Diana then managed the Custer Inn Motel while running the Ranch House Restaurant. In 1984 they opened Carbon Copy 1hour photo in Dickinson where they worked for 23 years until they retired. Charlie wasn’t retired long before he started working for Dan’s County Market, checking groceries. Charlie always went above and beyond to provide for his family. He loved collecting trains and spending time with his family. Charlie is survived by his wife of 51 years, Diana; daughter, Mary (Scot) Ingman; grandchildren, Sam, Hannah, Zachary, great-granddaughter, Payton; brothers, Milton (Kathy) of Red Lodge, MT, David of Belfry, MT, Jim (Cathy) of Miles City, MT; sister, Norma Jean (Alan) Chapman of Houston, TX and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Elwyn and Evelyn; brother, Elwyn Jr and sisters, Alvina Birkholz and Grace Jensen.
