A Funeral Mass for Charles “Charlie” Kessel, 72, of Belfield will be held at 1:00 p. m. , Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church with Father Bill Ruelle celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery. Visitation for Charlie will be from 4:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m. , Monday, January 25, 2016 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson with a rosary and vigil service being held at 6:30 p. m. Charlie passed away Thursday, January 21, 2016 at CHI St. Joseph’s Health in Dickinson. Charles Joseph Kessel, Sr. was born May 14, 1943 in Dickinson, the son of Phillip and Mildred (Polanchuk) Kessel. He grew up and attended school in Belfield. After graduating from Belfield High School, Charlie served our country in the United States Army. After being Honorably Discharged on December 31, 1968, he returned to the Belfield area and worked in various places. On October 5, 1973, Charlie and Leona Binstock were united in marriage at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dickinson. To this union four children were born: Chad, Nicole, CJ, and Nathan. Together, they raised their family in Belfield. Charlie began working road construction for several years before beginning his career at Napa Auto Parts in Belfield. He managed the store until the mid-1990’s. Over the years he was an active member of the Belfield Fire Department and was a lifelong member of the American Legion. Charlie enjoyed fishing, working in his yard, and working on his 1956 Ford. He especially enjoyed giving the grandkids rides in his “go-cart”. He was a good husband, father, grandfather and friend. Charlie is survived by his wife, Leona of Belfield; sons, Chad (Amanda Meier) of Glen Ullin, and CJ (Dawn) of Belfield; daughter, Nicole Kessel of Dickinson; four grandchildren, Mason, Logan, Kamea, and Allyssia; brothers, LeRoy of South Dakota, Raymond (Cheryl) of Belfield, Larry (Jean) of Fargo, Allan (Jean) of Santa Fe, NM, and Tom of Belfield; and sister, Valerie (Dennis) Bergman of Cincinnati, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Mildred Kessel; son, Nathan; brothers, Phillip, Jr. “Bunny”, Vernon “Skeeter”, and Ralph; sisters, Phyllis, Patsy, Joan, Shirley, Darean, and Joyce; and parents-in-law, Peter and Mary Eva Binstock.
