A funeral service for Charles “Chuck” LaPierre, 64, of Halliday, will be 10:00 a. m. , Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Halliday with Pastor Rachel Simonson and Pastor Walt Wolff officiating. Burial will take place in the Halliday Cemetery. Visitation for Chuck will be 5:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. , Wednesday, April 23rd at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with a Prayer service being held at 8:00 p. m. Charles passed away Friday, April 18, 2014 at Sakakawea Medical Center in Hazen, ND. Charles Maurice was born September 15, 1949, in Chicago, IL, the son of Edward and Luann (Wasem) LaPierre. He grew up and attended school in Halliday. Following graduation, he attended Dickinson State College and a welding school in Fargo. Chuck returned to Halliday to work with Lloyd in the family business, Selle Implement, where he was actively working until the time of his death. He spent 50 years as a parts-man. His abilities in his work were well known and appreciated in the entire region. In 1973, he married Candice Swenson in Payson, AZ. To their union, three children were born. They later divorced. Chuck met June Crows Heart in 1990 and they enjoyed many wonderful years together. Chuck also spent a lot of time with his classmates, who were a very important part of his life. In 2005, Charles received his 1st responder certification with the Halliday Ambulance. He enjoyed being at the lake, fishing and hunting. He was an avid coin collector and as a kid, he was a stamp collector. Chuck especially loved to spend time with his grandchildren, teaching them “his ways of life”. Chuck is survived by his son, Clayton (Dante’) LaPierre of Halliday, daughters, Crystal (Shannon) Sickler of Dickinson and Cynthia (James) Chestnut of Great Bend, KS; 5 grandchildren, Tate and Katya LaPierre, Christopher and Emilie Sickler, and Jayden Chestnut; sister, Lois Selle of Crystal, MN; and four nieces. He was preceded in death by his special friend, June Crows Heart; and his mother, Luann and father, Lloyd Selle. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Halliday Ambulance, Hazen Hospital and Our Saviors Lutheran Church.
