Funeral services for Charles A. Olson, 76, of New England, ND will be 10:00 a. m. Friday, February 19, 2010 at Pierce Congregational Church, north of Scranton, ND, with Pastor Janel Kolar officiating. Burial will take place at the Pierce Congregational Cemetery. Military rites will be presented by the Anton Ulijohn Post #66 of New England. Visitation will take place from 9 a. m. to 9 p. m. Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson, with a prayer service taking place at 7 p. m. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service. Charles passed away Monday, February 15, 2010 at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck, ND. Charles Alden Olson was born November 19, 1933, to Alvin L. and Nellie (Stafford) Olson on the family farm near Desart, ND. He grew up on the farm and attended country school in Hume Township before finishing his schooling in New England. After graduating from New England High School in 1952, he attended school in Wahpeton for two years before being drafted into the United State Army. Charles returned home to New England after serving in Germany for 18 months. He spent a winter in California working for Boeing, but returned to New England in the spring. On June 7, 1958, Charles married Winona Lien. The couple made their home on the farm where they raised their three children. Charles and Winona retired to New England in 2008. Family and farming were Charles? life and he stayed current on all of the industry?s advances and changes through his farming magazines. He enjoyed bowling, many years of which were for the New England Drug team. He was a member of both the Pierce and New England Congregational churches. Charles also served on the Social Service board for Bowman/Slope, FHA board for Bowman Slope, was a member of the New England Lions club, American Legion, New England Senior Citizens and Dickinson Elks Lodge. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Winona of New England; son, Charles R. Olson of Hastings, MN; daughters, Brenda (Alfred) Anderson of Hastings, MN and Deborah (James) Olson-Wynne of Britt, MN; grandchildren, Christopher Belbeck, Jesse (Thalia) Belbeck, Charles Anderson, and Danielle Anderson; brother, Donald (Donna) Olson of New England; sister-in-law Bev Olson of Dickinson, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Brandon Anderson; brother, Gerald Olson; father-in-law, Oscar Lien; and nephew, Kevin Olson. The family suggests memorials to New England Lions Club, American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
