Charles Christen Rogne was born November 16, 1918, on the farm homesteaded by his father, near Killdeer, ND; the son of Chris and Estella (Denison Coe) Rogne. Charles farmed with his Norwegian immigrant father until Chris and Estella retired to Oregon in the late 1940’s. On December 31, 1940, Charles and Lillian Hendrickson were united in marriage in Sidney, MT. Together, they had three children: Kaye (El Roy) Wolf of Shakopee, MN; Donna (Elroy) Murdoff of Kent, MN; and Kent (Carol) Rogne of Dickinson, ND. Charles farmed all of his life, starting when he received a shortened pitchfork at the age of five. He continued farming and ranching until shortly before his death. Charles fretted the day prior to his death because rain kept him from completing his fencing job. Charles was instrumental in forming the Killdeer Rural Fire Protection District. He served on the local school board, was part of a bowling league and enjoyed hunting earlier in life.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Chris and Estella Rogne; his wife of nearly 60 years, Lillian; and three half brothers, Raymond, Clyde and Earl Coe.
He is survived by his three children and their spouses; five grandsons and their wives; and eight great-grandchildren.
