Funeral Services for Charley J. Steffan, 93, of Dickinson will be 10:00 a. m. , Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson with Rev. Shannon Lucht, celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Wenceslaus?s Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will be from 1:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. , Monday, December 6, 2010 at Stevenson Funeral Home with a Rosary and Vigil Service at 7:00 p. m. Charley passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck. Charley J. Steffan was born September 22, 1917 in Billings County to Frank and Anna (Hibl) Steffan. He grew up and attended the Saints Peter and Paul School in New Hradec. After school, he continued to farm with his father. On October 12, 1938, he married Mildred Filipi at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dickinson. To this union 9 children were born; Bernard Steffan, Francis Steffan, Charles Steffan, Bernadette Kiwimagi, Elsie Ott, Shirley Kubas, Rita Richard, Cindee Kooistra and Millie Steckler. They began farming with his father northwest of New Hradec. The family later moved to a farm five miles west of Dickinson where they farmed and ranched. In 1997, they moved to a home on Patterson Lake Road. Due to failing health, he relocated to the St. Benedict?s Heath Care Center in 2004. Charley enjoyed rodeos and bull sales. He loved to show top quality feeder cattle and won numerous awards on the State and Regional level. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren show cattle as well. Charley loved to be with his family and especially his grandchildren. He was well known for always having a stash of candy on hand. Charley was a member of St. Wenceslaus and North Dakota Stockman?s Association, Catholic Workman and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Charley is survived by his 9 children, Bernard (Clementine) Steffan, Bismarck, ND, Francis Steffan, Bend, OR, Charles A. (Annette) Steffan, Belfield, ND, Bernadette (Roger) Kiwimagi, Elsie (Joe) Ott, and Shirley Kubas, all of Dickinson, ND, Rita (Raymond) Richard, Belfield, ND, Cyndee (Bill) Kooistra, Salem, OR, and Millie (Rick) Steckler, Breckenridge, MN; one sister, Lillian Hoerner, Dickinson; 33 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; Charley was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mildred; an infant daughter; three brothers, Joe Steffan, Robert Steffan and Frank Steffan and three sisters, Mary Chorne, Rose Buresh and Anna Chalupnik. Memorials may be given to the St. Benedict?s Health Center, 851 4th Ave. East, Dickinson, ND 58601.
