Funeral Mass for Charlotte Markel, 75, of Dickinson is 10 a. m. , Wednesday, November 21, 2007, at the St. Joseph?s Catholic Church with Father Dennis Schafer celebrating. Burial will be in the St. Joseph?s Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will be 12 noon to 9 p. m. , Tuesday, at the Stevenson Funeral Home with a rosary and vigil at 7 p. m. at Stevenson Funeral Home. Charlotte passed away on Friday, November 16, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer at the St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck. Charlotte Markel was born on July 4, 1932, in New Hradec, North Dakota to Tony and Emma Markel. She attended grade school in New Hradec, ND, St. Joseph?s Catholic School, Dickinson and graduating in 1950 from Dickinson High School. Charlotte then attended St Alexius School of Nursing and obtained her R. N. distinction. She continued her formal education by attending Carroll College for a B. S. degree in Nursing and Catholic University, Washington D. C. for a MA in Nursing and finally University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Mich. for her P. H. D. Charlotte spent most of her life in the Portland, Ore. area, working as an instructor in Hospital Administration and Nursing fields. After her retirement, she returned to Dickinson and cared for her mother and assisted her sister at the Paragon Bowl for the last ten years. Charlotte loved being with her family and spoiling her nieces and nephews any chance she could. She enjoyed traveling the U. S and abroad and spending time with her special friend Judge Gordon Thompson of Williston. Survivors include, one sister, Bernice Mueller, Dickinson; a brother, Raymond (Beth) Markel, Dover, FL; one aunt, Mildred Rios, Grand Rapids, MI; a sister-in-law, Sandra Markel, Sunnyvale, CA; nieces and nephews, Jay Markel, Kevin Markel, LaDonna Markel, Rick Mueller, Mary Jo Turner, John Mueller, Josef Mueller, Patrick Mueller, Sander Markel, Gretchen Markel, Andrea Ecoffey, Gregor Markel, and a special friend, Judge Gordon Thompson, Williston. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tony and Emma Markel, two brothers, Kenneth and Edwin Markel and one nephew, Jamie Mueller.
