A funeral Mass for Christ Meier, 91, of Bismarck, formerly of Glen Ullin will be 10:30 a. m. CST, Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin, ND with Father Jeff Zwack celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery south of Glen Ullin. Visitation for Christ will be from 4:30 p. m. to 7:00 p. m. CST, Monday, November 2, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with a rosary and vigil service being held at 6:00 p. m. CST. Christ passed away Thursday, October 29, 2015 at CHI St. Alexius Health in Bismarck. Christian Meier was born May 11, 1924 to Joseph and Eva (Schwartz) Meier, on the family farm near rural St. Joseph Church. He grew up on the farm and attended country school, graduating from the eighth grade. Christ farmed with his father Joe until Joe retired. Christ then bought the farm from his father where he made his home most of his life. On June 16, 1947, Christ and Anna Schaff were united in marriage. To this union seven children were born: Patty, Al, Antony, John, Janice, Lowayne and Lorraine. After Anna passed away in September of 1973, Christ later married Jeannette Koffler. To this union one son, Galen was born. Jeannette passed away in 1996. Christ had been longtime friends with Jan Berger, who then after became his special friend and part of his life and family. Christ enjoyed traveling including an Alaskan Cruise and a trip to Washington, DC later in life with his family. He also liked to spend time hunting & trapping, gardening, playing cards, dancing and making moonshine. Christ enjoyed spending time walking and looking at his cattle, feeding his cats and being with his horses. He loved going to senior suppers and getting together with neighbors. His favorite country song was “Tight Fittin Jeans”. He hosted many barn dances at his farm in the 60’s and 70’s. He loved to polka and waltz to the Little Girls Waltz. He could often be found watching Bonanza and the Polka Spotlight every day. Christ was instrumental in getting the rural phone company started. He was the local welder for all the neighbors as he was the first in the area to have 32 volt electricity before REA was established. He was also very active with farming until he retired and moved to Bismarck in May of 2013. Christ was a member of the Saddle Club, and St. Joseph’s Men’s Society. Christ is survived by his special friend, Jan Berger; children, Patty (Bob) Olzweski of Bismarck, Al (Mara) Meier of Wessington Springs, SD, Antony (Carol) Meier of Glen Ullin, ND, John (Pam) Meier of Scranton, ND, Janice (Gary) Neibauer of Bismarck, Lowayne (Andy) Grant of Pollock Pines, CA, Galen (Sara) of Carson, ND; sister, Anna Maria Hellman of Glen Ullin; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; seven step-children; eleven step-grandchildren; eight great-step-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Eva Meier; his wives, Anna and Jeannette; daughter, Lorraine; sister, Monica; and brothers-in-law, Joe Wolf and Tom Hellman.
