Clara passed away Friday, March 16, 2007 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Clara Tina Jepson was born January 10, 1918, the middle child of seven born to John and Amelia (Steffan) Hanssen on the family farm in Dunn County. She grew up on the farm and attended the local country grade school. Clara later worked at various jobs in the area before moving to Washington to live with her sister and seek employment there. In 1944, she enlisted in the United State Army and served two years. After being discharged, she returned home to Dickinson to be with her mother. Clara married Herald Jepson on August 7, 1948 and to this union three children were born: Helen, Nancy and Sandy. The couple moved to Sparta, Wisconsin to raise their family. In 1961, Clara and the girls returned to Dickinson where Clara worked at St. Luke?s Nursing Home. She then began taking classes at Dickinson State and received her LPN in 1966 while working and raising her daughters. She worked at St. Joseph?s Hospital in the maternity ward for many years and at St. Benedict?s Heath Center as well. Clara was nearly 78 when she retired, and was able to live at home until the age of 88. Her strong Christian faith sustained her through the many trials of her life. Clara enjoyed crocheting, reading, singing, and gardening. She loved birds and especially enjoyed quilting with the women from the Lutheran Church. Clara volunteered at the hospital auxiliary, St. John?s Lutheran Church kitchen, Meals on Wheels, The Food Pantry, and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and their women?s Circle, local Homemaker?s group, and LPN Association. She is survived by three daughters: Helen (Steve) Sitter of Mandan, ND, Nancy Jepson of Dickinson, Sandy (Lauren) Miller of Sacramento, CA; her grandchildren: Corey (Mick) Steckler; Shawn (Lisa) Steckler; Matthew Miller; two great-grandchildren: Ashton and Bonnie; four brothers: Fred (Doris) Hanssen of Sparta, WI; Henry (Ethel) Hanssen of Dickinson, ND; Louie Hanssen of Santa Rosa, CA, Clarence Hanssen, of Dickinson, ND; one sister: Kay Hanssen of Dickinson; and one sister-in-law: Frieda Hanssen of Pomeroy, IA.
