Funeral Services for Clara Angeline Monroe, 96, of Killdeer are 2:00 p. m. , Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at St. John?s Lutheran Church with Pastor Aanon Gjovik officiating. Burial will be in the Oakdale Cemetery. A Prayer Service will be 7:00 p. m. , Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel, Killdeer. Visitation will be 12:00 p. m. ? 9:00 p. m. Tuesday at the chapel. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 9:00 a. m. to 12:00 p. m. at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel, Killdeer. Clara passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2006 at the Hilltop Home of Comfort in Killdeer. Clara was born on March 17, 1910 in Whetstone, ND the daughter of Martin and Emma (Holstad) Hovden. She grew up and attended the Hovden Country School through the 8th grade. Clara graduated from the Killdeer High School in 1929. She attended Dickinson State Teacher?s College where she received her teaching certificate. Clara returned to the Killdeer area where she taught in rural schools. Clara was married to Robert Monroe on May 16, 1933 in Dunn Center. Together they ranched and raised their two girls in McKenzie and Dunn County until 1982 when they retired and moved into Killdeer. Clara has made her home in Killdeer since. She always enjoyed being outdoors, tending her chickens and milking the cows during her younger years. She was an avid seamstress and made many of the girls clothing over the years. In her later years, Clara enjoyed quilting and crocheting. She was always known for her wonderful cooking and was a devoted grandmother who always loved to open her gifts with excitement. Clara was a member of the St. John?s Lutheran Church of Killdeer. Survivors include, two daughters, Mary (Louis) Hurt and Dorothy (Marvin) Schmidt both of Killdeer; four grandchildren: Louis Hurt III, Dunn Center, Patricia Hurt, Michael (Amber) Schmidt and Patrick Schmidt all of Killdeer; two great-grandchildren, Shelbie and Marnie Schmidt; and two brothers, Elsworth (Philomina) Hovden and Morris Hovden both of Killdeer. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert, four brothers, Sumner, Edgar, Marion and an infant brohter, Simon; two sisters, Myrtle Newcomb and an infant sister, Ella; and a grandson Robert James Hurt.
