Clara Ott, 83, Dickinson, a beloved wife and mother, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at Country House Residences, Dickinson. Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 a. m. , Friday, July 23, 2004 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Rev. Austin Vetter celebrating. Interment will be 2 p. m. MT Friday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. There will be a rosary at 7 p. m. Thursday at Price-Murphy Funeral Home. Clara Barbo Nelson was born July 12, 1921 to Herman and Alma (Bagstad) Nelson at the Nelson family home in Strehlow Township south of New England. She graduated from New England Public School in 1939 and attended Dakota Business College in Fargo, ND. She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper at the New England Farmer?s Elevator until December, 1941, at which time she moved to Long Beach, CA. She was hired by a contractor to straighten out his books, which took her to Medford, OR for three months. She returned back to Long Beach, CA and worked in personnel at Douglas Aircraft. In 1943, she moved to Oakland, CA and did similar work at Almeda Navel Air Station. Clara married George Ott on July 30, 1945 in Oakland, CA. They lived in Douglas, AZ and Spokane, WA before settling on the Ott family farm south of New England. She was a member of St. Helen?s Catholic Church in Kennedy Township. She was a long-time member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church in New England until they moved to Dickinson in 1991, at which time she became a member of St. Joseph?s Catholic Church. Mrs. Ott was active in many organizations such as the Church Altar Guild, past Rainy Butte Lutheran Church organist, American Cancer Society, Women?s Club of New England, Dickinson Rock & Gem Club, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, and was secretary of the ND State Prisoners of War. Survivors include her husband, George Ott, Dickinson, ND; one son, David (Laurie) Ott, Dickinson, ND; four daughters, Georgia (Robert) Sigmon, Middletown, RI, Julie (Tim) Bailey, Auburn, WA, Rosemary (Tim) Kilzer, Castle Rock, CO, Laura (Anthony) Shirek, Rochester, MN; twelve grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one brother, Dale (Sharon) Nelson, Spokane, WA. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Janna Tjaden, three brothers and two sisters. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Dickinson National Guard Family Support Group, 550 7th Street East, Dickinson, ND.
