Clarence William Thompson passed away peacefully at St. Benedict’s Home in Dickinson, ND, on Saturday March 24, 2012.
He was loved by the staff and fellow residents for he always had a quip or story to tell them.
He was born December 2, 1916 to Bert and Aagot (Nelson) at his farm home by Ambrose, ND, but according to him it was in a gopher hole by the slough and he always enjoyed pointing out the site to his grandchildren. He attended a country school until eighth grade and helped the family by farming, hunting and trapping. He later entered the Civilian Conservation Corps and also worked in the navy shipyards in San Diego. He was married to Doris Norby in Ambrose, ND, where they farmed until her death in December 2010. They had one child Keith (Bucky) William Thompson. They were a close knit family and enjoyed traveling, playing games and farming together. Clarence lived and breathed farming until the age 94, when he moved to Dickinson to be near his son and grandchildren. He always enjoyed their visits and entertained them with his stories.
He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Deborah Lou Thompson of Dickinson, ND; his grandchildren, Brock Thompson and wife, Jenny, of Dickinson, ND; Brick Thompson and wife, Stacie, of Indianapolis, IN, Brook Thompson and Brandy Thompson of Minneapolis, MN. He has three great-grandsons: Tevan, and Kale Thompson of Dickinson, ND, and Kamdyn Thompson of Indianapolis, IN, of whom he was thrilled to hear the news of his birth one week ago. Other survivors include step-brothers: Barry (Barb) Thompson of Minneapolis, Arden (Janis) Thompson of Stanley, ND, and Lana (Roger) Watterud of Minneapolis, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Doris, and his only child, Keith; his siblings: Rose Jorgenson, Archie Martin Thompson, Burnette Thompson and a step-sister, Linda Thompson.
Clarence requested that there would be no formal service. A private burial will be scheduled at a later date. He will be missed dearly by his family and they will remember him for his humor and wisdom.
The family requests donations to be given to a charity of the donor’s choice in his name. They wish to thank their extended family and friends who visited Clarence at St. Ben’s. They are also grateful to Dr. Wolf and the St. Benedict’s staff for their kindness, care, concern and professional dedication.
