Clarence Wetzel

A funeral service for Clarence Wetzel, 79, of Glen Ullin, will be 11:00 a.m. CT., Monday, February 19, 2018 at the Evangelical Congregational Church with Pastor Bill Bradley officiating.  Burial will take place at Friendship Community Cemetery in Glen Ullin.


Visitation for Clarence will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. CT, Sunday, February 18, 2018 at Evangelical Congregational Church.  Visitation will continue on Monday, one hour prior to service at the church.


Clarence passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at his home in Glen Ullin.


Clarence Wetzel was born October 1, 1938 to Henry and Christina (Stauss) Wetzel on the family farm 10 miles east of Glen Ullin. He graduated from Glen Ullin High School with the class of 1958 and went on to attend Dakota Business College in Fargo for accounting; later graduating from H&R Block Income Tax Course. Clarence was introduced to Phyllis Lang by his pastor who was at the hospital where Phyllis was working. The couple was united in marriage on April 14, 1973 in Bismarck. To this union their son, Timothy was born.


Clarence had many jobs throughout the years. He worked at Curlew IHC Implement and Lumber Company as a parts man and bookkeeper, was the administrator for the Marian Manor for ten years, and owned the Family Clothing Store in Glen Ullin for 27 years. Clarence was currently working for Glen Ullin Super Valu while continuing to prepare income tax returns for individuals since 1965. Clarence’s hobbies included walking, gardening, caring for animals and being around family and friends.  He loved his grandchildren and spending time with them brought Clarence great joy.


Clarence is survived by his wife, Phyllis; son, Tim (Amber) Wetzel; grandchildren, Morgan Wetzel, Molly Wetzel, Emerson Wetzel, and Madison Kassian; brothers, Peter Wetzel, Oscar Wetzel, and Eddie Wetzel; and sisters, Bertha Klein and Irene Schnaidt.


He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Christina Wetzel; brothers, Rudolph Wetzel, Alvin Wetzel, Paul Wetzel, Henry Wetzel, and Marvin Wetzel; and sister, Florence Huber.
