Funeral Services for Cora Weiand, 71, of Fort Thompson, SD, formally of Glen Ullin, will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 9, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Cora passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at her home in Glen Ullin, ND.
Cora Jean Weiand was born December 17, 1949, the daughter of Edmond and Anna (Martin) Weiand. She grew up in Glen Ullin, graduating from Glen Ullin High School in 1967 before earning her bachelors in Education from DSU. Cora taught at Sacred Heart School until it’s closing. She then worked at the Beulah power plant before returning to teaching in South Dakota. She also spent 35 years working as a parish secretary at Fr. Thompson from 1985-2020. She spent her time at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church doing maintenance, cleaning, bookwork and finances.
Cora loved sports and played softball well into her 50s. A Yankee fan, Cora collected sports memorabilia and cards. Cora enjoyed working with the Native American community in Ft. Thompson. She especially liked photography, cats, old photos, family history, and collecting arrowheads.
Cora is survived by her brothers Gary (Joan) Weiand and Allan (Mary Ann) Wieand; brothers-in law Ray Diede and Steven Donahue; best friend and co-worker Sister Charles; 12 nieces and nephews.
Cora is preceded in death by her parents, Edmond and Anna Weiand; sisters Adeline Diede and Janice Donahue; one nephew and two nieces.
