A funeral service for Cordella Sandvick, 92, of Killdeer will be 10:00 a. m. Saturday, March 5, 2016 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Killdeer, ND with Pastor Ellery Dykeman officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale cemetery, north of Killdeer. Visitation for Cordella will be from 4:00 p. m. to 6:00 p. m. Friday, March 4, 2016 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Killdeer, ND. Cordella passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at Hilltop Home of Comfort in Killdeer. Cordella Sandvick Reetz was born July 4, 1923 along with her twin brother Kermit, to Andrew and Clara (Svendson) Nordsven. They farmed in the Werner/ Vang area. She was baptized and confirmed at the Vang Lutheran Church by and attended grade school in Werner. Cordella received her GED In 1975 and was very proud to have accomplished that. From 1943 to 1944 Cordella worked in Cheyenne, WY, as a “Rosie the Riveter. ” She always said it was the best time of her life. Her name is on the “Rosie the Riveter” WWII Home Front Memorial in the National Historical Park in California. She married Edward Mjolhus and they had six children, Larry, Judy, Jane, Susan, Andrew and Karen. They divorced and she married Glenn Sandvick on December 12, 1957. He passed away in 1978. On October 15, 1991 she married Stanley Reetz of Hebron and they lived together in Killdeer until his death in 2004. Cordella was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Killdeer, WELCA, Sons of Norway, birthday club, bowling league, thimble club, card club and homemakers. She also belonged to the Legion Auxiliary and often sold the most poppies. She enjoyed going to the casino, crocheting and sewing and made shirts, dresses and many beautiful quilts. Cordella enjoyed painting, canning, making lefse, doughnuts, Krumkake, and tending to her flowers. She also refinished old trunks and chests with her husband, Stanley. Cordella would say a Norwegian prayer before a holiday meal. In July 2011 Cordella entered Evergreen Assistance in Dickinson and moved to Country House living center in July of 2012, and eventually to Hill Top Home of Comfort in May of 2014. Cordella is survived by her children, Jane Vaagen, Fargo, ND; Susan (Gary) Mittlestadt, Rapid City, SD; Andy (Anita) Mjolhus, Killdeer, ND, Karen Weisz, Bismarck, ND; son-in-law, Don Loscheider; ten grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; brothers, Alvin (Carrie) Nordsven, Truth or Condequences, NM, Kermit (Cecelia) Nordsven, Belfield, ND, Elmer Nordsven, Halliday, ND, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husbands; Glenn Sandvick, and Stanley Reetz; infant son, Larry; daughter, Judy; son-in-law, Gary Vaagen; sister, Iola Bolster. The family prefers memorials be made to the American Legion Auxiliary in Killdeer, ND, c/o Pauline Appledoorn, 1521 98th Ave SW, Gladstone, ND 58630.
