Dagmar Murphy

Dagmar Murphy, 72, Dickinson, died Thursday, May 5, 2011, at St. Joseph?s Hospital and Health Center, Dickinson. Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 a. m. Monday, May 9th, 2011 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with the Rev. Jeff Zwack celebrating. Interment will be 3 p. m. (Central Time) Monday, May 9th in the North Dakota Veteran?s Cemetery, rural Mandan, ND. Visitation will be Saturday from 3 to 6 p. m. at Stevenson Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 p. m. to 6 p. m. at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with a prayer service and special music at 4 p. m. Visitation will continue Monday at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday. Dagmar Marie Steffan was born February 26, 1939, on the family farm to Vincent and Paulina (Hibl) Steffan. She attended boarding school in New Hradec and later St. Patrick?s School in Dickinson and graduated from Dickinson High School. Dagmar married Robert A. Murphy on July 20th, 1959, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, New Hradec. Together they made their home in Dickinson where Dagmar was employed by Sax Motor Company prior to raising her five children. Once her children were in school she worked as a bookkeeper at Young America and Dickinson Lumber Company. Her passion and proudest days were spent working side by side her sons at Price-Murphy Funeral Home. Dagmar was diagnosed with Parkinson?s disease at age 51 and resisted its progressive and debilitating effects for over 20 years. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, attending her children?s every activity, walking with her friends, lunch with her birthday club, singing in the church choir, catching up on the gossip over a cup of coffee or ice cream. Dagmar loved watching her grandchildren play and Twins baseball. She looked forward to making every holiday, birthday or family gathering a special event and no detail was overlooked. Parkinson?s disease didn?t allow her to do all the things she wanted to do, but her spirit never tarnished. She will be remembered for her enormous smile and sweet tooth. Dagmar is survived by her husband, Robert Murphy, Dickinson; five children, Deb (Phil) McGlone, Billings, Mont. , Doug, Fargo, Roberta (Bob) Lemnus, Valley City, Russ (Marci), Dickinson and DeAnna (Ryan) Saville, West Fargo, ND. ; ten grandchildren, Megan McGlone, Jackson, Abby and Natalie Lemnus, Declan, Raghyn and Cullen Murphy and Hayden, Addison and Hudson Saville; two brothers, Jim Steffan, Hill Top Home of Comfort, Killdeer and Stanley (Marlene) Steffan, Dickinson; sisters-in-law, Hattie Steffan, Georgianne Steffan, Mary Ann Steffan, Betty Fettig, San Jose, Calif. , Norma (Jake) Eskew, Shady Cove, Ore. and Eleanor Murphy. Dagmar is also survived by a genuine special friend, JoAnn Anderson, Dickinson. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to: St. Benedict?s Health Center, 851 4th Avenue East, Dickinson, ND 58601 or the West River Outdoor Pool, C/O Dickinson Parks & Recreation, 2004 Fairway Street, Dickinson, ND 58601.
