Mass of Christian Burial for Daniel Kostelecky, 79, of Dickinson is 1:00 p. m. Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at St. Wenceslaus Parish, with Father Austin Vetter, celebrating. Graveside service will follow at St. Patrick?s Cemetery. Military Rites will be provided by Dickinson Veterans Drill Team. Dan?s wishes were for Martha and himself to be buried in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery which will take place at a later date. Visitation is 1:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. Tuesday at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel with a rosary at 7:00 p. m. led by Knights of Columbus. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 9:00 a. m. to 12:00 p. m. at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel. Daniel passed away at his daughter?s home, Bismarck on Sunday, April 18, 2004. Daniel was born August 27, 1924 on his family?s farm near New Hradec, ND to Peter and Rose (Jedlicka) Kostelecky. He grew up and attended school in the New Hradec area. He enlisted into the US Navy where he served for four years in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. After being honorably discharged in 1946, Dan returned to the Dickinson area. On October 28, 1947, he married his long time sweetheart Martha L. Sadowsky. They lived in Dickinson raising their three children. Dan began working in the 1950?s for Northern Pacific Railroad and remained there for 30 years. Upon retiring he continued to make Dickinson his home. Dan enjoyed fishing, camping, playing cards and especially the time shared with family and friends. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Elks and St. Patrick?s Catholic Church. Daniel is survived by his two daughters, Bonnie (Nick) Steckler of Bismarck, Gail Kostelecky of Crystal, MN; one son, Danny (Janice) Kostelecky of Anoka, MN; five grandchildren, Mark, Lisa (Corey) Shea, Chad, Samantha and Colin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha and parents.
