Funeral Service for Darlene will be held 1:00 pm Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at American Lutheran Church with Don Buerkle officiating. Burial at Bonnievale Cemetery to follow.

Visitation will take place one hour prior to service.

Darlene Kay Hornung, 73, passed away August 3, 2023 at Billings Clinic.  Darlene was born June 18, 1950 at Great Falls, MT to Virgil and Doris Price.  She grew up in Turner, MT where she went to school and graduated.  She married her high school sweetheart, Clayton Hornung, on September 21, 1968.  They moved to Havre, MT where Clayton would attend school at Montana State University – Northern before moving back to Turner.  Darlene spent her time babysitting and raising her three kids, Tim, Tammy, and Julie. In 1977, they moved to Baker, MT.

After working as a babysitter and also for a local optometrist she was contacted by the Fallon County Times.  They wanted Darlene to come to work for them in sales.  After a few months, the owners decided to move and asked Darlene to take over the management of the newspaper.  Thirty-two and a half years later she retired.

Darlene served as a volunteer on the Baker City Park Board for 20 years, serving as chairman for 18 of those years.  In her tenure on the Park Board, she managed the baseball program, hiring and supervising the coaches.  She supervised the employees who maintained the city parks and was responsible for the budget.  Darlene also organized Fallon County Days for close to 20 years.  In 2020, Darlene was honored as Baker’s Citizen of the Year.

Darlene was a member of the American Lutheran Church. She enjoyed working in her garden, playing cards especially pinochle and whist, spending time with her grandkids, playing softball, watching sporting events and the game show network.

 Darlene is survived by her son, Tim (Katie); daughters, Tammy (Don Bruha) and Julie; grandchildren, Caleb, Andrew, Isabella, Sterling, Kordell, Aliyah; brothers Bill (Joy) Price and Jim (Lula) Price; sister Donna (Jeff) Whitmus; sister-in law Deborah (Richard) Calvert; brother-in law Leroy Haack and many nieces and nephews.

 She is preceded by death by her husband, Clayton Hornung; parents Virgil and Doris; Sister, Sally Haack; father & mother-in-law, Elmer & Helen Hornung; sister-in-law Carolyn Hornung; nephew Quinn Whitmus.
