Darlene Joan (Thompson) Jucker, 76, Las Vegas, died Saturday, January 8, 2005, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Funeral services will be 2 p. m. on Saturday, January 15, 2005, at Belfield Lutheran Church, Belfield with the Rev. Roger Dieterle, officiating. Interment will be in Belfield Lutheran Cemetery, Belfield. Visitation will be Saturday at the church one hour prior to the service. Dar was born June 1, 1928, in Dickinson, North Dakota to Clarence ?Skip? and Minnie (Cornelius) Thompson. She was baptized and confirmed at Belfield Lutheran Church. Following graduation from Belfield High School, Dar began her college career at St. Olaf and over the years attended several other prestigious universities. She earned her Doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of Northern Colorado. In addition to her career in Education, owning a dress shop in Belfield, and managing a furniture manufacturer in California, Dar gained the respect of numerous colleagues who maintained their relationship over the ensuing years because of her caring personal investment in their lives augmented by the wisdom of knowledge and experience she gained over the years. While fiercely independent and motivated to overcome obstacles with quality and character, Dar chose to devote herself in marriage to a widower, Chuck Jucker, following the death of her prior husband Russ Fercho. Following Chuck?s death, Dar continued to serve her community by working for the U. S. Census Bureau, volunteering to aid those needing assistance filing taxes, working at the polls during elections, and serving at her congregation at Christ Lutheran Church in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dar passed away on Friday, January 7, 2005, on one of the few days that it has snowed in Las Vegas. Her passing was under the terms that she dictated and in the Lord?s time, which was also indicative of how she lived her life. She went places, accomplished tasks, and incurred risks while trusting because she was about the business to be accomplished. Dar is survived by her brother, C. C. ?Sonny? Thompson; sister Maureen ?Marcy? Miller; son Mike Wallace; daughter-in-law Diane Wallace; grandchildren, Eric, Toren, Andrea and Justine along with several step-grandchildren. Many loved Dar as family, even if not related, because of her ability to connect in a meaningful way. Dar?s unique character is preserved by those who were touched by her influence and cherished by those who appreciated her individuality.
