A Funeral Mass for David C. Schmid, 54, of Ekalaka, MT will be at 11:00 a. m. Monday, October 22, 2007 in the Chapel of Stevenson Funeral Home in Ekalaka with the Rev. Father Thomas Tobin celebrating. David passed away unexpectedly Monday, October 15, 2007 at Dahl Memorial Healthcare in Ekalaka. David Christian Schmid was born in Cheyenne, WY on November 14, 1952 to John and Pat Schmid. The Schmid family worked their farm in Idaho until David?s older brother Tommy passed away in 1959. Soon after his death, the Schmid family moved back to Cheyenne, where David attended grade school and graduated from high school in 1971. After he graduated high school, David went to work for Yellowstone National Park in Cody, WY. In the winter of 1972, David took a job with Kendrick Cattle Co. , where he met his life partner, Chris Powers, whose family ranched near there. David and Chris were married January 29, 1974 in Sheridan, WY. David and Chris went to work for August and Mary Decker at Otter, MT, and on September 14, 1974 their first son, Thomas Christian Schmid was born. On October 2, 1976, their youngest son, Joseph Patrick Schmid was born. In October of 1977, David took a ranch job with Mark Stevens at the Circle Bar in Otter, MT, where they worked until David and Chris moved to Chris?s family ranch in the spring of 1981. David and Chris worked side by side and raised there family on the ranch until David had to take a job with the NRCS in Broadus, MT in April 11, 1988. David and his family lived in Broadus, where David continued to work for the NRCS Office. In June of 2007, David and Chris bought their very first new home, and had it placed on the Schmid Ranch near Ekalaka, MT where David worked closely with his youngest son, Joe, until his death. David is survived by his wife, Chris of Ekalaka, MT; his sons, Thomas Schmid of Sheridan, WY and Joseph Patrick (Kitty) Schmid of Ekalaka, MT; three grandchildren, Ashley Deanne Schmid, Cole Patrick Schmid and Jennifer Elaine Schmid all of Ekalaka, MT; his parents, John and Patricia Schmid, Harlingen, TX; a brother, Michael (Carla) Schmid, Cheyenne, WY; a brother-in-law, Thomas (LeeAnn) Powers, Billings, MT; a sister-in-law, Marion Powers, Gillette, WY and nephews and nieces, Nate, Ben, Andy, Trevor, Jennifer, Jessica, Kelly, Katie, Eva and Kerry. His brother Thomas E. Schmid preceded him in death. Arrangements are under the direction of Stevenson Funeral home of Ekalaka, MT.
