Delila Smith

Delila M. ?Lila? Smith, 88 life long resident of the Baker area passed away Thursday, August 14, 2003 at the Fallon Medical Complex in Baker. She was born Southeast of Baker in the Bishor area, the daughter of Eddie E. and Anna Jannett (Nassett) Celander on February 7, 1915. Lila and her brothers attended the Prairie Rose School. Her father passed away when she was only 11 years old which left her and her brother Eddie to do farming and help their mother in any way they could. On July 4th 1951 Lila married Russell ?Smitty? Smith in Lewistown, Montana. They lived in Nashua for a short time before moving back to Baker to make their home. Together Lila & Smitty opened the Bake Shop making the best homemade pastries around; they did this for 11 years. Lila loved to visit with family and friends, and always had a big garden. She was preceded in death by her husband ?Smitty? in 1992, her parents, four brothers, Eddie, Harley, Jim and one infant brother. Lila is survived by her son Dale Smith of Ramona, CA; and very special daughter-in-law Peggy Smith of Baker; two step-children Elaine Schorsch of Federal Way, WA; James (Brenda) Smith of Midland, MI; two sisters Helen (Bud) Hetland of Bowman, ND; Jannett Roberts of Wilber, WA; two brothers, Bill (Diane) Peterson of Bozeman, MT; Lawrence Peterson of Avondale, AZ; sister-in-law Vivian Celander of Baker; numerous nieces and nephews.
