Delilas ?De? Herbst, 95, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 6, 2003, at the Quality Personal Care in Baker. She was born January 25, 1908 at Sioux Falls, SD, the daughter of Herman and Nannie (Perau) Korth. When she was twenty one months old, her parents moved to eastern Montana where she resided the rest of her life. Her family homesteaded west of Plevna where De attended grade schools in Westmore, Ismay, and the Korth-Carrington school. She attended Plevna High School and graduated with Plevna?s first 4 year high school class in 1928. De attended and graduated from Washington State Normal College in Bellingham, WA, receiving her teaching degree. She then returned to Plevna and taught schools in the area. Delilas married her longtime friend Earnie Herbst on December 27, 1932 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Plevna. They were blessed with a son, Robert Earnest. They farmed and ranched south of Plevna until 1961 when they built a home in Baker. In 1999, De became the first resident of Quality Personal Care?Baker?s first assisted living facility. De was very active in many community groups. She was a member of the 3-in-1 Home Demonstration Club, St. John?s and St. Anthony?s Altar Societies, Catholic Daughters, Democratic Women, to name a few. She was also active in organizations that worked to preserve the early history of Fallon County. Her grandchildren were a great joy in her life and she kept close track of their progress in all that they did. She loved both writing and receiving letters from all of her many friends and relatives. Your life was full and long, rest in peace dear one. You?ll live on in our hearts. We love you and miss you. Surviving are her son, Robert and his wife Carol; four grandchildren: James (Kim) Herbst and their children Brenden, Colby, Tyla and Kalee all of Parker, CO; Brandon Herbst, also of Parker, CO; DeAnna Herbst (Luke Holestine) and children Brittany, Payton, and Dalton, all of Baker; and Kay (Kevin) Petersen and their children Erika and Kelsey, all of Castle Rock, CO. Preceding De in death were her parents; her husband, Earnie; and her only brother Donald Korth. Visitation will begin Thursday, Dec. 11, from 9 AM until 9 PM at Stevenson Funeral Home, Baker. Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, Dec. 12, at 11 AM at St. John?s Catholic Church. A luncheon will be served immediately following the mass. Burial will be at the Herbst family lot in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Plevna after the luncheon. Stevenson Funeral Homes, Inc. of Baker and Ekalaka is in charge of the arrangements.
