Funeral services for Della Brockel, 77, of Baker, will be 11:00 a. m. Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at First Baptist Church, Baker, MT, with Pastor Levi Durfey officiating. Burial will follow at Bonnievale Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p. m. to 8 p. m. Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Stevenson Funeral home, Baker; with Della’s family present to greet friends from 5 p. m. to 7 p. m. on Tuesday. Della passed away peacefully on Friday, February 14, 2014 at Fallon Medical Complex in Baker. Della Mae Brockel was born February 7, 1937, the daughter of Edgar and Clemmie Ammons in Waldron, Arkansas. After attending grade school in Arkansas, she moved with her family to Baker, Montana, graduating from Baker High School in 1955. Della’s fancy red coat caught the eye of Duane Brockel at the First Baptist Church in 1956, whom then became the love of her life. On March 21, 1959, Della and Duane were married in the same church where they met. To this union three children were born. Brent, Gay and Jill. Being a mother and raising their children was her greatest pleasure. She started her working career at Mountain Bell Telephone office then went on to be a nurses’ aid at the Baker hospital. In 1975, Della starting working as a law enforcement dispatcher. She retired in 1996. Della was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Baker. She served 20 plus years as a church clerk, she was a member of Mission Circle and choir. She also was active in Homemakers Club. She really enjoyed her Bible studies with the ladies. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking, baking, flower gardening, canning and decorating their home for all holidays. She also was an avid reader and loved doing crossword puzzles. Survivors include her husband, Duane, Baker; three children, Brent (Karen) Brockel of Baker, Gay (Jon) Schelling of Gillette, Wyoming, Jill (Perry) Butcher of Billings, Montana; seven grandchildren, Rachel (Dustin) Logan, Laker (fiancé Rachel VanderVoort) Brockel, Kelcie Schelling, Jayde Schelling, Nathan Schelling, Devin Butcher, Keara Butcher; one great-grandchild, Arriauna Logan; two sisters, Melba (Roger) Losing of Miles City, Montana and Gayle Bottoms of Malvern, Arkansas and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother Chuck Ammons; a sister Jean Wiseman; and one nephew, Keith Losing.
