Funeral services for Delmer Weidner, 86, Killdeer, will be 1:00 pm, Friday, March 10, 2023 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Killdeer, with Pastoral Intern Anne Nies officiating. Interment will be at the Halliday Cemetery, Halliday, ND. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service.
Delmer passed away March 1, 2023 at Hill Top Home of Comfort, Killdeer, ND.
Delmer Weidner was born June 20, 1936 in Beulah, ND to Carl and Ella (Reinhardt) Weidner. He attended Elementary School North of Hazen. When his parents moved to a farm east of Halliday, he attended Halliday Public School and graduated from high school in 1954. He attended Dickinson State University where he received his teaching degree. He taught at rural Elementary School North of Halliday, Werner Public School and Killdeer Public School. He retired from teaching in 1977. He became a fulltime employee at Cenex in Killdeer. Due to a head injury, Delmer retired in 1990. During his working career, Delmer worked for the State of ND Highway Department as a Surveyor. He farmed and did custom swathing. He was a school bus driver, a Jr. High basketball coach, and he worked in maintenance at Hill Top Home of Comfort. Delmer was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and a council member serving on the building committee. He honorably served in the United States Army from 1958-1960.
On December 30, 1959, he married Marylene Frei at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at Halliday, ND. They were blessed with two children, daughter Delene, and son Lance. Their children were the joy of their lives.
Delmer enjoyed teaching, coaching, and driving school bus, but farming was his favorite thing to do. He loved hearing how his former students were doing. He enjoyed watching sports and listening to classical music. He enjoyed ethnic foods and baking cookies then giving them to his friends. Delmer had a great sense of humor, a quick wit and he loved visiting with friends. He loved family vacations. He especially loved having his children and grandchildren home to visit and watching the grandchildren play. Delmer was a resident of Hill Top Home of Comfort in Killdeer from 2003 until the time of his death.
Delmer is survived by his wife, Marylene; daughter, Delene (Kevin) Chidlers; son, Lance Weidner; four grandchildren, Zachariah (Rachel) Wurzer, Joshua Wurzer, Bailey Weidner and Maxwell Weidner; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eileen Schnaidt and Shirley (Ron0 Kudrna; one niece, Ronda (James) Gustafson; two nephews, Wesley (Marcia) Schnaidt and Ryan (Raumi) Kudrna.
He was preceded in death by his parents and niece, Robyn Schnaidt.
