Mass of Christian Burial for Delores M. Hammel, 82, of Ekalaka, MT will be a t 11:00 a. m. on Friday, January 23, 2009 in the Chapel of Stevenson Funeral Home in Ekalaka, with the Reverend Father Thomas Tobin celebrating. Rite of Committal will follow in the family lot in the Beaver Lodge Cemetery at Ekalaka. Visitation will be 2:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. on Thursday, January 22nd, at Stevenson Funeral Home with a Rosary and Vigil Service at 7:00 p. m. Delores passed away on Monday, January 19, 2009, at Dahl Memorial HealthCare in Ekalaka. Delores M. Hammel was born in Dickinson, ND on April 5, 1926. Delores was the fourth youngest of eleven children born to Alexander and Barbara (Muelberger) Wolf. Delores was raised a strict Catholic. Delores attended the Versippi Country School near the Wolf Family farm north of Dickinson. In 1937, the family moved to Dickinson and Delores attended St. Joseph?s School and Dickinson High School graduating in 1944. Delores worked at the Osborn Studio doing retouching of negatives and coloring photographs. Delores married Robert E. Hammel in Dickinson on July 17, 1950. To this union four boys and three girls were born. Delores and Robert lived on the Hammel ranch near Dunn Center, ND. In 1955, Delores and Robert moved to Dickinson where they started Hammel Agsco Seed Company. They operated it for six years until moving to Billings, MT in 1961. In 1966, Delores and Robert and their family again moved to Augusta, MT where they owned an irrigated ranch. In 1979, Delores and Robert moved to Ekalaka where they purchased a ranch. Delores has made her home at Ekalaka since. Delores was a very devout Catholic and was active in the Catholic Church, serving on the Council of Catholic Women. She was also a member of the Carter County Cowbells, the American Legion Auxiliary, Card Club and the Ekalaka Senior Citizens. More recently she enjoyed her children?s visits and loved being a great- grandma. She was fortunate to be so close and see Darin and Travis weekly and enjoyed playing with them. Delores also loved to play cards and played ?card club? when ever she could and was a tough competitor in the family ?scratch? games. When possible, she enjoyed afternoon coffee with the ladies at the Wagon Wheel Caf?. In 1992, Delores was chosen as Mother of the Year in Montana. Delores greatest love was for her Church, Family and friends. Delores is survived by her children, Richard (Karen) Hammel, Ekalaka, MT, Donna Deen, Alexandria, VA, Robert (Lynda) Hammel, Wolf Creek, MT, Carol Hammel, Maple Valley, WA, Howard Hammel, Milwaukie, OR, Debbie (George) Bell, Missoula, MT and Alan, (Patty) Hammel, Buellton, Ca; nine grandchildren, Jeff Hammel, Jennifer (LeRoy) Schallenberger, Jake Hammel, Tanya Deen, Amee Welch, Jonathan Lewis, Justin Lewis, Joe Lewis and Jason Lewis; three great-grandchildren, Tyler Welch, Darin Schallenberger and Travis Schallenberger; two brothers, John (Emily) Wolf, MN and Richard Wolf, Dickinson, ND and a sister, Vi Stranik, WA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alexander and Barbara Wolf, her husband, Robert E. Hammel, five brothers, George, Tony, Donald, Wayne and Ronald and two sisters, Angeline and Eleanor. Arrangements are under the care of Stevenson Funeral Home of Ekalaka, MT.
