Denise Shepherd

Funeral Service for Denise Sue Shepherd, 49, of Marmarth, ND will be held 10:00 a. m. on Saturday, September 26th, in the Chapel of Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker, MT with Reverend Galen Strand officiating. Interment will follow in the Graham family lot in the Riverside Cemetery at Marmarth. Visitation will be 2:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. on Friday, September 25th, at Stevenson Funeral Home with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p. m. and will continue one hour prior to the time of service on Saturday. Denise passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2009, at her home in Marmarth with her family at her side. Denise Sue Shepherd was born on January 11, 1960, a daughter of Leslie Alvin ?Swede? and Mary Delores ?Biddy? (Peterson) Graham in Baker, MT. Denise grew up in Marmarth, attending grade school through the fifth grade. Following her fifth grade, Denise?s family moved to Baker. Denise attended Baker City Schools from sixth grade through high school, where she graduated with the Class of 1978. After her graduation from high school, Denise attended the University of Montana in Missoula for one year and transferred to Dickinson State University in Dickinson, ND where she graduated with a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Denise married in 1980 and moved to Corvallis, OR where she worked in the local hospital. While living in Corvallis, Denise became the proud mother with the birth of her son David. After working in Corvallis, her family moved to Madison, WI where she worked in a hospital. Denise divorced and returned to Marmarth with David where they have made their home since. In the early 1980?s, Denise left the health care field and worked at Duffy?s Corner and Doug?s Welding in Marmarth. Denise enjoyed working for her family. Denise was the type of person who enjoyed giving of herself to others, and went back into nursing. Denise took a job at Fallon Medical Complex where she worked as Dr. Jones and Dr. Espelands Nurse eventually Denise would become the Clinic Nursing Manager. In April of this year, Denise celebrated 20 years of faithful and dedicated service to Fallon Medical Complex. Denise went above and beyond what was expected of her job. Denise always put others first by helping her family, fellow nurses, helping with fundraisers in the Baker and Marmarth communities or her cause to fight breast cancer through Breast Cancer Awareness. Her compassion was real and it was from the heart and she never expected anything in return. Patient care was her passion as was working on her yard, playing and giving to all of her ?Kids?. For the past six years, Denise and her sister, Joy traveled to either Deadwood or the Prairie Knights Casino. Through these trips she has made many friends and shared several exciting memories! Halloween and Christmas were her favorite holidays and she enjoyed decorating her house and yard for the seasons! Mostly she enjoyed her time with all of her family during the holidays. The past 2 ? years brought much joy to Denise with the addition of a daughter-in-law, Jona and her granddaughter, Jesarae six months ago. Denise is survived by her son, David (Jona) Shepherd, Marmarth, ND; her granddaughter, Jesarae Shepherd, Marmarth, ND; her sister, Joy Duffield, Marmarth, ND; two brothers, Clayton (Mary Pat) Graham, Baker, MT and Rock (Loretta) Graham, Marmarth, ND and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Swede and Biddy Graham, her grandparents, Elwood and Margaret Peterson and Alvin and Joy Graham, her infant sister, Lois Yvonne Graham and a brother-in-law, Doug Duffield.
