Dennis passed away at his home in Dickinson Tuesday, July 9, 2024.
Dennis Schloss was born March 18, 1943 to Jacob and Eva (Miller) Schloss. He grew up on his family farm near Hirshville, North Dakota. He attended country school and started high school in Dickinson and finished in Bismarck. Dennis met Sheila Anner when he was invited to play bass guitar in her bother Dennis’s band. The couple married on November 23, 1964, and were blessed with three children, Dennis Jr., Berlinda and Tina.
Dennis worked for North Dakota Department of Transportation for most of his life. Even after retiring he continued to operate his own blade building roads and oil field pads. Dennis and Sheila built a house south of town where he found great pride in tending to his property.
Dennis enjoyed working on his cars and taking them to local car shows. His love for cars began in his early years when he took up drag racing. Dennis was a true motor head and constantly sought new ways to fix and improve every project he tackled. He was very resourceful, and would rather re-purpose than discard things. He even developed a patent for an asphalt crack sealer “Krackster.” Dennis acquired rock saws and various agates from around the world that he would cut and polish and make trinkets from. He loved giving them away, often to a waitress as an additional tip.
Dennis cherished his coffee group and the staff at Paragon Bowl. They spent many mornings solving the world’s problems.
Dennis is survived by his daughters, Berlinda Simoneig of Dickinson, Tina (Bill) Griswold of Dickinson; family cat, Scooter; siblings, Diane Lansford of Dickinson and Rita Paul of Dickinson.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Sheila; parents, Jacob and Eva Schloss; son, Dennis Jr; and siblings, Agnes, Art and James.
