Dennis passed away Friday, October 4, 2013 at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck.
Dennis was born on May 4, 1948 in Dickinson to John and Margaret (Kuntz) Sticka. He grew up attending school in Schefield near the family farm. In 1964, the family moved to Dickinson where Dennis and his brothers attended and graduated from Trinity High School. After graduation, he worked for Kolling Construction and then entered the US Army in 1969. He proudly served our country before his honorable discharge in 1971. Upon moving back to Dickinson, Dennis met and married the love of his life, Jean Irons. They were married on September 7, 1973 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Dennis worked at TMI until 1976 and then began employment with MDU Resources. After 32 years at MDU, he retired in March of 2009. Dennis had a generous heart and his willingness to help others was recognized by those who knew him. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Many knew him as “Papa. ” His seven grandchildren were his pride and joy. He enjoyed every minute he spent with them, especially attending all of their activities and events — even after he became ill. Dennis loved to do many things: camping, fishing, yardwork, but his true passion was woodworking. Many closest to him have received “creations of love” from his skilled hands and heartfelt efforts over the years. He was a very special man and will be deeply missed by those who love him.
Dennis is survived by Jean, his wife of 40 years; daughters: Michele (Brian) Allerdings of Dickinson and Cindy (Curt) Buckman of Belfield; three brothers: Ben (Verlene) of Dickinson, twin brother John (Sue) of Kingman, AZ, and Ed (Renae) of Dickinson; six sisters: Agnes Frank of Belfield, Josie Steier of New England, Rosie (Ray) Gartner of Kent, WA, Marge (Ed) Frank of Lincoln, ND, Joan (Jerry) Stenehjem of Dickinson and Hilda Pavlish of Dickinson; seven grandchildren: Hunter & Brooklyn Allerdings and Allison, McKenzie, Austin, Brayden & Colby Buckman; a brother-in-law, Chuck (Shirley) Irons of Halliday; a sister-in-law, Marge Sticka of Dickinson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret; stepfather, Max Miller; a brother, Henry; and three brothers-in-law: Gabe Frank, Vince Steier, and Bill Pavlish.
