Funeral Services for Donald W. Ennis, 82, of Dickinson, ND will be 10 a. m. , Thursday, July 3, 2008 at Stevenson Funeral Home with Bernard Krebs officiating. Burial will be 2 p. m. (MST) Thursday, July 3, 2008 in the North Dakota Veteran?s Cemetery, Mandan,ND. Visitation will be 9 a. m. to 9 p. m. , Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson with a prayer service at 7 p. m. Donald passed away peacefully Sunday, June 29, 2008 at St. Benedict?s Health Center, Dickinson surrounded by his loving family. Donald W. Ennis was born September 26, 1925 the son of Cloney and Laura (Boelter) Ennis. He grew up in Montpelier, ND on the family farm. He attended school in Montpelier. As a teenager, he started working as a mechanic for his uncle Bill Boelter in Lamoure, ND. Don enlisted in the US Navy May 25, 1943 when he was 17 years old. He served in the South Pacific in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre as a Mate Third Class and worked as a motor machinist. He also completed Radar Operators Surface Detection Unit Training in Point Loma, CA in 1943. He was honorably discharged on March 18, 1946. Her then returned to North Dakota and worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone in Jamestown, ND. On December 15, 1951 he married Dorothy Dachtler from Elgin, ND. He then transferred with Northwestern Bell to Dickinson putting in 35 years until his retirement in 1983. Don was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 40 and 8, lifetime member of the American Legion Matthew Brew Post # 3 where he held various positions and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a gifted woodworker whose work was often requested. He had a talent for building almost anything, having built his own workshop which was full of his many tools. Don was always willing to lend a hand to neighbors or friends. He had a friendly nature about him always stopping to talk to a total stranger. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, working on cars with his sons, having coffee with this buddies and feeding the birds, squirrels and rabbits. Don was a loving and caring husband and a patient and giving father and grandfather who was often ?soft? when it came to discipline. He will be missed but will live in our hearts always. He is survived by: his wife, Dorothy, Dickinson, ND; sons, Jerry (Brenda) Ennis, Rocksprings, WY, Bryan (Mary) Ennis, Dickinson, ND; daughters, Susan Walz, Dickinson, ND,Sandra Kuntz, Richardton, ND, Patti Ennis, Mandan, ND; grandchildren; Shalin Ennis, Mesa, AZ, Matthew Ennis, Rochester, MN, Sarah Ennis (Tyler Rice) Dunn Center, ND, Jesse Kuntz, Dickinson, ND, Samantha Walz, Dickinson, ND, Scott Ennis, Fargo, ND, Laura Ennis, Dickinson, ND; great granddaughters; Savanna Hulm, Bismarck, ND, Sophia Rose, Dunn Center,ND sisters; Valora Okland, Fargo, ND, Elaine Bugzavich, Vienna OH, brother; Ervin (Bev) Ennis, Jamestown, ND, aunt; Inez Boelter, Oelwein, IA; brother in-law; George (Ruth) Dachtler, Missoula, Mt, Marvin (Delora) Dachtler, Glen Ullin, ND, Johnny (Mary) Dachtler, Oxford, IA; numerous nieces and nephews and many very dear friends. Don was preceded in death by: his parents, Cloney and Laura Ennis, step father; Walter Hall, son Mark Ennis and infant daughter, brothers-in-law, Arthur Okland, Wally Gensburg, Joe Bugzavich, Garhart Dachtler and sister-in-law; Ione Dachtler and many coffee buddies. The family would like to give a special thanks and recognition to St. Benedict?s Health Center for all the kindness, respect and loving care given to Don and us during his stay in their care.
