Funeral Mass for Donald P. Fischer, 84, Dickinson will be 10:30 a. m. , Thursday, October 13, 2016 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Father Todd Kreitinger celebrating. Burial will be held in the ND Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation for Donald will be 2:00 p. m. – 7:00 p. m. Wednesday, October 12th at Stevenson Funeral Home with a vigil service being held at 6:00 p. m. Donald passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the Eastern Montana Veteran’s Home in Glendive, MT. Donald P. Fischer was born September 21, 1932, in Dickinson, the son of Peter J. and Margaret C. (Schubert) Fischer. In 1940, the family moved out west to work during the war. The Fischer family returned to Dickinson soon after the conclusion of the war. Don grew up on the south side and was a member of the Southside Gang, a group of childhood friends. The Gang remained close throughout the years and enjoyed picnics, camping and fishing together with their families. Don graduated from Dickinson High School, where he played basketball and football. He excelled in baseball, playing in both Legion and amateur ball. He played with the Queen City Packers baseball team. Don was drafted in 1953 and proudly served in the United States Army in Germany until his discharge in 1955. He started his long career with the United States Postal Service in the fall of 1955. Don and Eleanora Krieg were united in marriage on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1953 while he was home on leave. To this union three children were born, Robert, Dona and Diane. Donald is survived by his wife, Eleanora; his children, Robert (Carolyn) Fischer, Dona (Jim) Glick all of Bismarck and Diane (Jerry) Mayer of Dickinson; four grandchildren, Troy Herberholz (Kelly Highland), Jamestown, Jodi (Kenny) Molenda, Bismarck, Andy Glick, Dickinson and Justin (Lisa) Herberholz, Bismarck and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dorman. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be made to the Stark County Veterans Memorial Project which will help with the construction of an enclosed reception area at the Memorial site in Dickinson.
