Donald Fried

Donald R. Fried, age 68 of Baker, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 3rd, 2013 after a year-long battle with cancer. Don was born on January 14th, 1945 in Baker, Montana, to Alvin and Frieda (Allerdings) Fried, along with his twin sister, Donna. He attended Ehret School through the fifth grade and then finished his grammar and high school in Plevna, Montana. Don farmed with his dad and continued farming and ranching all his life. In November 1965, Don accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was a faithful member of the Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church in Plevna. He married the love of his life, Sharan Wetzel on July 5th, 1968. God blessed them with two special children, Londa and Terry. Don served faithfully as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and church treasurer, as well as a member of the Plevna School Board, the Gideon’s International and the Baker Community choir. He also raised calves for Steer Inc. and Trails End Ranch. Don shared his talents by singing in the choir, men’s quartet and was known for his bass solos. He cherished singing with Londa and even sang for local churches in South Korea and Germany. Another favorite pastime was ice fishing and watching baseball with Terry. He was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and Plevna Cougars, he loved to talk about sports and he treasured having coffee with “the boys” in Plevna. Don is survived by Sharan, his wife of 45 years; children, Londa (Allen) Stanley of Sumter, SC and Terry (Patricia) Fried of Billings, MT; grandchildren, Scott and Alena Stanley; sister, Donna (Eric) Krikorian of Baker, MT; mother-in-law, Esther Wetzel of Baker, MT; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Frieda; as well as sisters, Diane Fried and Della Huber. Visitation for Don will be 5:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. , Sunday, October 6th at Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker with a Prayer service being held at 6:30 p. m. Visitation will continue at 10:00 a. m. on Monday, October 7th, 2013 with the funeral services following at 11:00 a. m. at Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church in Plevna, with Pastor Joe Noel officiating. Burial will follow in the Plevna Community Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church.
