Dora Lambert, 92, of Ekalaka died suddenly at Dahl Memorial Nursing Home, September 9, 2008. Born September 20, 1915, in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, to Elias and Jane Miller, Dora was the second youngest of 10 children. Her parents both died when she was young and she went to live with an older brother while still in elementary school. Following her graduation from high school in Lebanon in 1934, Dora followed an older sister into nursing, completing her nurses training at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon in 1936. After working as a nurse in New York City General Hospital, Dora headed west, where she met her future husband, Marshall, in Fresno, California, where he was a college student and she was a nurse at a local hospital. The couple was married in 1942 in Texas where Marshall was completing flight training for the U. S. Army Air Corps. Following World War II, Marshall and Dora returned to his hometown of Ekalaka, Montana, with their two young sons, Brice, born in 1945, and Russell born in 1946. Marshall taught science at Carter County High School, while Dora remained at home to help raise their family. After both her sons had graduated from high school, Dora said yes to Dahl Memorial Hospital when it needed more registered nurses. Although she had not worked as a registered nurse since 1942, Dora took some refresher courses and began 15 years of service to Dahl Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home. Dora retired on May 7, 1985. When her son Brice, wife Lois, and toddler granddaughter, Katie, moved to Ekalaka in August 1985, she could be a full-time grandmother. Grandmother duties expanded in 1988 when a grandson, Reed, arrived on the family scene. Dora and Marshall entered Dahl Memorial Nursing Home in 2002, where the couple lived comfortably. Marshall died in 2005. Throughout her life Dora was distinguished by her intellect, skill, patience, smile, poise, and grace. She always maintained a sharp wit and sense of humor. Dora was an avid gardener, took pride in her family, and was especially proud that with her granddaughter, Katie, in nursing school, there was another nurse in the family. Dora is survived by her youngest sister, Sylvia Naslund, of Prairie City, Illinois; one son, Brice and his wife, Lois; a granddaughter, Katie and her husband Clayton Stieg; a grandson, Reed and his fiance Erica Reyman; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall, eight brothers and sisters, one son, Russell; and an infant granddaughter, Morgan. At the families request, Memorial may be made to Dahl Memorial Healthcare in Ekalaka.
