Funeral services for Doris Howie, 81, of Belfield will be 10 a. m. on Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Daglum Lutheran Church, rural New England, ND with Pastor Roger Dieterle officiating. Burial will be held 1 p. m. (CST), Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at the North Dakota Veteran?s Cemetery, Mandan, ND. Visitation will be 9 a. m. to 5 p. m. on Friday, May 23, at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson. Doris passed away May 21, 2008, at her home in rural Belfield, ND. Doris Homelvig was born on October 25, 1926, in Amidon, ND, to Ingvald and Inga (Yttri) Homelvig. She attended school in Amidon and later graduated from New England High School. Doris then attended Concordia College and received her teaching certificate. She taught at Conner country school and later worked one year at the ASC Office in Amidon, where she met Hugh Howie, Jr. . On October 25, 1949, they married in Dickinson. Together they ranched south of Belfield, ND and where she lived until her death. Hugh passed away November 19, 1997. Doris was a member of the Daglum Lutheran Church and Kil Kare Club. She enjoyed reading, quilting, eating out and bird watching. She is survived by: three daughters, Deb Howie, Dickinson, Doreen (Lyle) Kovar, New England and Kim (Mark Wandler) Howie, Belfield; two sons, Doug (Susie) Howie, Bismarck and Don (Daniela) Howie, New England; grandchildren, Desiree (Leonard) Medina, DeAnn (Brian) Carpenter, Kristin (Fianc?, Brock Schoch) Kovar, Dustin Howie, Kendra (Ray) Porrello, McCall Kovar, Sunni Kovar and Alyssa Howie; one great grandchild, Emily Medina; one brother, Miles (Kay) Homelvig, Salina, KS; a sister in law, Maizie (Homelvig) Hot Springs, SD; and several nieces and nephews. Doris is preceded in death by: her parents, husband, Hugh, sisters Marion Inman ? Anderson, Nora Echard, Gladys Miller, Ina Monroe; brothers, Clifford Homelvig, Elmer Homelvig.
