Funeral Services for Doris Stanhope, 78, of Baker will be held 10:00 a. m. Thursday, February 6, 2003 at the American Lutheran Church, Baker. Burial will be at a later date at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD. Doris Flor Stanhope passed away suddenly at her home, Monday, February 3, 2003. Doris was born December 4, 1924 in Marmarth, ND, the daughter of Charles and Rosella Mae (Hughes) Bock. She grew up and attended school in Marmarth and graduated in 1941. She then began teaching there in Marmarth. On May 16, 1942, she married Newton Flor in Ekalaka, MT. Just two days later, Newt was drafted by the US Army for World War II. They then headed for Mississippi for nearly four years, after the war they returned to Marmarth until moving to Baker in 1960. Newton passed away on September 27, 1980. Doris was later married to Donald Stanhope. He passed away in 1998. Over the years, she was very involved with the Fallon Medical Complex-Pink Ladies, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Doris loved reading; she could often be found reading to the residents at the Nursing Home. Doris also enjoyed playing cards at the Senior Center and taking care of Alvina Morton. She was a wonderful cook and seamstress; she loved to crochet and made many beautiful baby blankets & afghans for friends and family. Doris will be remembered by many for the delicious, home baked pies that she provided the community over the years. She will be missed by her family and friends. Doris is survived by her three children: Susie Evans of Billings, Merri (Don) Beck of Baker, and James Flor of Miles City; a sister, Aileen Carlson of Bismark, ND; ten grandchildren: Susie’s children; Tara, Ryan & Michael Wilcken, Merri’s children; Andrea & Brandon Buerkle, Michelle (Jason) Moser, Nicholas & Nathan Beck, and Jim’s children; Cody & Nicholas Flor and Jared Carlson; and two great-grandchildren: Jonathan Gratwohl and Dawn Wilcken. She is preceded in death by husbands, Newton Flor and Donald Stanhope and a sister, Leona Swedlund.
