Dorothy passed away November 7, 2009 at St. Luke’s Nursing Home, Dickinson, ND. Dorothy (Kilzer) Arnold was born on July 7, 1928 to Peter J. Kilzer Jr. and Elizabeth (Roth) Kilzer at the family farm south of Richardton. She attended Plum Creek School and graduated from Mott Lincoln High School. After graduation she worked for Ward Johnson Ford Motor Co. as a secretary. On November 14, 1950, Dorothy was married to John Arnold at St. Stephen?s Catholic Church, south of Richardton. Dorothy and John farmed with her parents on the family farm, and as their family grew, they realized that they needed a larger place in order to provide for their growing family. In 1965 they bought land north and west of Richardton. Dorothy was a dedicated farm wife working in the home, the garden and helping her husband with the farm work. Her life was devoted to her husband and her children. She encouraged her children to get an education, make the most of themselves, work hard, and remain humble in whatever they did. Mom loved children of all ages and was very proud of her six children, twenty grandchildren and five great?grandchildren. She worked for 22 years at the Assumption Abbey as a seamstress, a job she truly enjoyed. She loved reading, visiting, embroidering, playing cards and watching television. Dorothy was a member of St. Mary?s Church and the Christian Mothers. Survivors include her husband, John, Dickinson, children, Deborah (Delford) Milne, Richey, MT, Gary (Sherry) Arnold, Sidney, MT, Thomas (Marie) Arnold, Dickinson, ND, Susan (Tim) Cook, El Paso, TX, Carol (Judd) Winter, Gladstone, ND and Laura (fiancee Joe Schumacher) Arnold, Bismarck, ND; 20 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Joyce Marie and an infant son, Paul; her parents, Peter and Elizabeth Kilzer; and her sister, Kathryn Thomas. The family wishes to express our deepest appreciation to the nurses and certified nursing assistants at St. Luke?s Nursing Home for the wonderful care given to Mom in the last few years and to the doctors, nurses, and certified nursing assistants at St. Joseph?s Hospital and Health Center.
