Dorothy Sadowsky was born on April 21, 1927, the daughter of Joseph and Minnie (Volesky) Sadowsky at Dickinson, ND. She grew up and attended country school in the New Castle area. As a young woman, Dorothy attended Beauty School to become a Hair Stylist. Dorothy was married to Jerry Bren on October 30, 1945 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Hradec. Together, they farmed and raised five children, Donald, Marietta, Diane, Galen and Dale. In the early years on the farm, Dorothy raised a large garden and canned the produce from it. Fond memories from the farm life always came up at family gatherings such as drinking warm milk from the morning milking. Eating warm buns dipped in rich heavy cream and Dorothy’s famous choke cherry syrup. In 1975, Dorothy and Jerry retired from the farm and moved into Dickinson were they have made their home since. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, playing card games especially pinochle, word finds, baking and puzzles. Dorothy’s love was for her husband and family. Her favorite place was in the kitchen, greeting those gathered around her table with a home cooked meal and fresh baked goods. Dorothy’s door was always open to others and her warm, gentle smile made those that came to visit feel like family. She genuinely cared about others and would remind her children and grandchildren to “call when you get there”. Dorothy had deep faith in God that she passed on to her five children. Dorothy was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Rosary Society and Prayer Chain.
