Funeral services for Dorothy P. Ficek, 87, of Dickinson, will be held at 9:00 a. m. , Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Todd Kreitinger celebrating. Burial will be held at 3:00 p. m. CDT, Wednesday at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery in Mandan. Visitation for Dorothy will be from 1:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. , Tuesday, March 31st at Stevenson Funeral Home with a rosary and vigil service being held at 7:00 p. m. with Deacon Ron Keller. Dorothy passed away Friday, March 27, 2015 at St. Benedict’s Health Center in Dickinson. Dorothy Pauline was born September 8, 1927 on the family farm southeast of Dickinson, the daughter of Joseph and Victoria (Sykora) Kubischta. Growing up she attended Frenzel country school through the eighth grade. Dorothy married Otto Ficek on November 4, 1947 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dickinson. They were blessed with eight children, Bernard, Herbert, Howard, Beverley, Bonnie, Herman, Harvey and Brenda. Together, they farmed and raised their family on the Ficek farm near New Hradec for 21 years. They moved to their new home, two miles west of Dickinson, where Dorothy lived until moving into St. Benedict’s Health Center. Dorothy enjoyed working in the garden, mowing her yard, quilting, traveling and actively attending her Homemakers Club for many years. She was a faith filled woman, committing to a weekly hour at Eucharistic Adoration in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church for many years. She also enjoyed assisting at her parish up until she became ill in 2011. She felt very blessed with so much love in her life and she was especially proud of all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dorothy will be remembered as a very happy person who always accepted what the Lord gave her with much grace. She inspired her family with the saying, “what will be will be. “Dorothy is survived by her sons, Bernie (Charlotte) of Dickinson, Herb (Pat) of Poncha Springs, CO, Howard (Marian) of Columbia Falls, MT, Herman (Brenda) of Dickinson, Harvey (Kathy) of Roseville, CA; daughters, Beverley (Jon) Loyd of Simi Valley, CA, Bonnie (Doug) Lanz of Milwaukie OR, and Brenda (Rod) Zastoupil of Bismarck; 20 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 12 grandchildren through their marriages; brothers, William (Beatrice) Kubischta of Manning, James Kubischta of Dickinson; sisters-in-law, Marge and Delores Kubischta of Dickinson; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Otto; brothers, Ludwig and George Kubischta; sisters, Marie Kubischta; sisters-in-law, Eva and Martha Kubischta; and step-granddaughter, Thalia Lanz.
