A Funeral service for Dorothy Mutschelknaus, 86, of Hebron, will be 10:00 a. m. CDT, Saturday, August 17, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Hebron with Pastor Marcy Dawson officiating. Burial will follow at First Congregational Cemetery, Hebron, ND.
Visitation for Dorothy will be 5:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m. CDT, Friday, August 16th at First Baptist Church in Hebron.
Dorothy passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Marian Manor Health Care Center in Glen Ullin, ND.
Dorothy Rebel was born April 23, 1927 in rural Richardton, the daughter of Val and Marie (Alpert) Rebel. She grew up and attended country school through the eighth grade. She worked as a nanny and farmhand for her sister, Helen and Henry Raaf. On February 2, 1947, Dorothy married Ervin Mutschelknaus. To this union, Kenneth, Lester, Alvin, Clyde, Steve and Danny were born. Together they raised their children while Ervin worked on the Northern Pacific Railroad, moving and working with the railroad. In 1959, they settled in Hebron and have lived there since then. Dorothy worked as a school cook and in frozen food production. Dorothy shared her talents by teaching Sunday School, Bible School and singing in the choir for First Congregational Church in Hebron. She was very active in the Guiding Light and she served as a Cub Scout Den Mother for many years. Dorothy enjoyed gardening, fishing, and camping. She loved time spent with her grandchildren, especially her granddaughters, after raising six sons. She also enjoyed playing pinochle and card games with family and friends. She made clothing for her children and in her later years she made quilts for most of her grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, Lester of Hebron, Alvin (Carol) of Hebron, Clyde (Lila) of Colorado Springs, CO, Steven (Melissa) of Bowman and Danny (Kim) of Rapid City, SD; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Eleanor Gathright of Hebron; brothers, Albert Rebel of Weippe, ID, Frank and Richard Rebel of Hebron.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Val and Marie Rebel; husband, Ervin; son, Kenneth; grandson, Dustin Siewert; and sisters, Helen Raaf, Agnes Alpert and Marie Berger.
