Funeral Mass for Karl Duane Schwartz, 79, of Hebron will be 11:00 a.m., CT., Friday, September 3, 2021 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church with Father Gary Benz celebrating. A Rosary will be held 30 minutes prior to the mass at the church. Burial will follow at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by VFW Post #707 and American Legion Post #40 Honor Guard, Mandan.
Duane passed away Friday, August 20, 2021 at his home in Hebron
Karl Duane Schwartz was born on December 7, 1941 (Pearl Harbor Day), at Richardton, ND to Frank and Anna (Hasenmaier) Schwartz. Duane, as most people knew him, was raised on a farm north of Hebron where he resided his entire life. He attended a Farmers Valley School for all eight grades and then went on to High School at Hebron High. Upon graduation he attended the State School of Science at Wahpeton, ND. His course of study at Wahpeton was auto mechanics, diesel mechanics and welding. Upon graduation from Wahpeton he returned to the farm in Mercer county to help his parents and farming and ranching became his lifetime occupation. While on the farm, he served several years in the ND National Guard. He also utilized his diesel mechanics knowledge to repair and service diesel engine pumps, being certified by International Harvester to provide this service for International Harvester dealers in Glen Ullin, Hebron and Richardton. As an excellent welder, he utilized his welding skills to help construct the towers for the lights placed at the Hebron High School football field. He was involved in community affairs by serving as President of the Hebron Lions Club and also being a member of the All Class Reunion committee. He enjoyed talking on the phone, playing cards, telling jokes and generally enjoyed visiting with people.
Duane is survived by his brother, Ron (Kathy) Schwartz; sister, Noreen Restad; nephew, Brad Schwartz; nieces, Annette (Keith) Byman, Claudine (Douglas) Fair, Desiree Harris, Melissa (Arnie) Drusch and Rusalyn (Johnny) Maitlen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Anna Schwartz; sister, Lyndabeth (Ron) Polensky.
