Pete passed away August 30, 2013 at Fallon County Medical Center in Baker, MT. Dulane “Pete” Wang was born September 19, 1929 in Baker, MT to Elmer and Anna (Steen) Wang. Pete grew up on the family farm and ranch in the Ollie community of northeastern Fallon County. He attended the Ollie School until Its closing in 1947. With the help of Sammy Rustad, he then took correspondence courses and graduated with the Baker High School class of 1948. In 1947, Pete met the love of his life Anna Mae Mackay, and the two were married June 2, 1950 at the American Lutheran Church in Baker. Five sons were born to this union: Dave, Mark, Mike, Joe, and Jimmy. Shortly after their marriage, Pete and Anna Mae purchased and lived on their ranch in partnership with Lee Roy “Doc” Wang. Pete was a true cowboy. He took pride in his horses and always had a good reining horse. For several years, he and Donnie Steen competed in team roping. He and his sons were popular participants at area brandings where Pete did the roping and the boys wrestled calves. Pete managed the Mackay and Mackay ranch, where he made many good neighbors and friends. He also farmed and ran heavy equipment both locally and in western MT. Over the years Pete helped many young boys, both his own and others, to mature into good young men. Pete loved to work with wood. He could make a solid swinging gate from ash poles and spent many winter hours crafting items with his scroll saw. He grew a bountiful berry patch with his special “roosterbooster” and made delicious jam from the harvest. He was always up for a good game of cribbage (carving many of his own pegs) and pinochle. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and always had time to take the kids and grandkids to catch the “big one” or find that “big buck. ” He was just as pleased as the kids at their successes. Pete passed away of natural causes Friday evening, August 30, 2013 in Baker, MT, surrounded by a family who will miss this kind and gentle man. Pete is survived by his wife of 63 years, Anna Mae; his brother Allan (Ruth) Wang of Baker; four sons, Dave (Cindy) of Baker; Mark of Baker; Joe (Cindy) of Lolo, MT; and Jimmy (Denise) of Plevna, MT. Pete had 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Anna Wang; sisters, Alma Thoemke and Edna Plummer; brothers, Vic Berg and Lee Roy “Doc” Wang; a son, Michael Wang; and a grandson Jason Wang. To honor Pete’s wishes, his cremains will be returned to the ranch he so dearly loved.
