Funeral Mass for Dwayne Steichen, 71, of New England, ND formerly of Tappen, ND will be 10:30 a. m. (CST) at St. Paul?s Catholic Church in Tappen, ND with Father Jerome Hunkler celebrating. Burial will be in the Fisher Cemetery north of Tappen, ND. Visitation will be 12:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Sunday, May 17, 2009 at Stevenson Funeral Home Dickinson, ND with a vigil service at 5 p. m. (MST). Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at St. Paul?s Catholic Church in Tappen. Dwayne passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at his home in New England, ND. Dwayne Steichen was born May 28, 1937 in Alton, IA to Raymond and Catherine (Gysbertsen) Steichen. The family moved to Tappen, ND in 1949 where they began farming. Dwayne completed his schooling in Tappen and entered the US Army in 1958. He was stationed in Alaska and later in Fort Gordon, GA. He was honorably discharged from the service in 1960. In 1962, Dwayne and Germaine Schlosser were married in Bismarck, ND. To this union two children were born, Darry and Carla. Dwayne worked on the Paul Jennings Farm in the Washburn, ND area. In 1964, he took over the family farm and operated it until 1977, at which time he sold the farm. In the late 1970?s, Dwayne moved to New England, ND where he worked for the Stang Farms for 15 years. He also worked for the Kirschmann Farms until semi-retiring. Dwayne continued to make New England his home and helped out friends and neighbors. Dwayne and Shirley Dockter were married in September 1984 in New England. Shirley passed away in January 2002. Farming was always a great passion of Dwayne?s along with collecting many things. Some of his collections include antiques, coins and ash trays. He was very generous and would help anyone in need. Dwayne enjoyed being around people and visiting. He enjoyed a home cooked meal and loved to have coffee and visit with the ?Coffee Crew? downtown. He is survived by his children, Darry Steichen and Carla (Duane) Vetter, both of Bismarck, ND; grandson, Casey Vetter; step children, Dale (Karen) Dockter, Tappen, ND, Allen (Lidia) Dockter, Olympia, WA and Patricia (Doyle) Fraddosio, Nicholasville, KY; four step grandchildren; brothers, Dean (Gloria) Steichen, Goodrich, ND, Bobby (Carol) Steichen, Tuttle, ND; sister, Donna (Lewis) Klein, West Fargo, ND and numerous nieces and nephews. Dwayne is preceded in death by both parents; wife, Shirley; brother, Tom and a sister-in-law, Fern.
